Looking for a better blu-ray software

I honestly have no clue anymore where I purchased ArcSoft from, I've used it for years! Sorry!

Thinking more, I suspect probably BestBuy, as back in those days, I bought almost everything at BestBuy.

Okay, times up and time to buy the new one. Now, I could get it from ArcSoft or Amazon, but I'm wondering how much is ArcSoft's website safe?, because I'll be using my credit card info Also, I heard that if I got it from Amazon (which I would be paying $40 instead of $100) I will still et it, but it will be registered to an email address at Arcsoft, therefore I won't get the benefits like upgrades if I was a registered user; is that true? Finally, I never had a problem using this software, and I only used it for the blu-rays and nothing else; but, I heard that there is a new kind of copy protection called Cinavia, and there is negative feedback from it with Arcsoft. Don't know what, anybody know?

I've ran into a few blu-rays that will not play properly on one drive, but they play perfectly fine on a second drive, due to the copy protection. Works perfectly fine on the internal, but not the external. I'm sure something to do with the usb connection. I've honestly never attempted to update the program, it's not broke, so I don't try to fix in in this case, so I can't offer any insight in this matter, sorry.

The AACS libraries and KEYDB.cfg must be in specific folders for VLC to play BDs. That's all I can say on the matter.

Please forgive me chiming in late...

Sometimes this will just not work, and you have to keep updating the keys.

The real issue is that BD's are licensed, where are DVD was free. There are logo, patent and format license fees. Which is why commercial software is the only "dependable" (and I use the term loosely), that plays BDs, because they have to pay royalties.

At least this is what I've read on forums like doom9, videohelp, dvdfab, and many others.

Many free software players will play ripped blu-rays (eg mkv), but try and play directly from the disk and you're often out of luck.

This is unlikely to change, and from what I've read, in the future, this trend will continue (read "get worse").

DVDFab has a new player that launched recently but I am not tracking it. Enough is enough, what I have. No problems for me with AnyDVDHD but practically I do not watch any movies (blurays) now. All the more what is enough is more than enough - these are just idling. Almost every week AnyDVDHD keeps prompting me to update but I am ignoring.. I shall update if I need to.

Anyway, the main problem I have that explains all of this is that I want one good blu ray software that has a reasonable cost and favorable reviews. Arcsoft seem to be the one to get, but its expensive (seems to be below $100, until further notice) and getting it at amazon means I could get it for less but won't have access to any upgrades if I choose to upgrade it. There is other players such as AnyMP4 (which I got before, and I'am trying out again) with a very good $39.00 and then there is Leawo which I haven't tried yet, but if its good to buy, its 30 bucks (limited time) but 60 dollars regular. The reviews vary; Arcsoft's reviews at amazon are mixed, but I found it be simple and basic which is what I wanted; AnyMP4 is the same, and the reviews praise it as such, even though once I got the player back recently to try it again, it had to be closed and reopened until it was able to play the Blu-ray, and I don't know if that is why I got rid of it and didn't buy it. Finally, Leawo; at CNET, the ratings are very good, but there is one review that is negative.

Point is, I don't know, and I don't want to be screwed in buying something that sucks in the end.
