Hi Everyone,

I had a XFX HD 5870 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DP Out PCI-E Graphics Card for just over a year. It failed and I contacted the seller (in this case ebuyer.com) they had it tested and it was indeed faulty.

They have offered to replace my card but they no longer stock it. I can choose any card from their site and any difference in price will be deducted from my account.

I'm not great with computers could you suggest a good replacement please? I do a lot of work with graphics and video. I also use my PC for HD movies and games.

My computer:

Antec Dark Fleet DF-85 Case

Antec Truepower Quattro 1200W PSU

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 Socket 1366 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz Socket 1366 8MB Cache

Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Memory Kit CL9 1.5V Non-ECC Unbuffered

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Do you think I need more RAM? Might as well get it all in the one go. :) Thank you for your time.

What do you use the PC for mainly?

If you use the PC for gaming then you should go ahead and take advantage of their offer and get the best that you can afford the difference of.

For NVidia, I would suggest either the newest, 680, or if that's too much or unavailable, I would go with the 580 3gig. For Nvidia, use EVGA.

For ATI, I would suggest the newest, 7970, or if that's too much or is unavailable, I would go with the 6970. For ATI, use XFX.

This computer is mostly for games yes. Thank you James I'll have a look and see what I can find. I have £194 store credit I am willing to add to that to get a better card I should have said that before.

Thanks again James. :)

I couldn't really afford to go for a 680 or even a 580, boyfriend's birthday approaches. I ended up going for a Gainward GeForce GTX 570 Phantom 1280MB GDDR5 plus insurance which used my store credit. I'm aware this wasn't the best move but money wise it was best I think.

What do you think, is it a step down from my last card?

Grace

Honestly, they perform about the same.

EDIT:The 570 is definitely a superior card, don't worry, you will be happy. :D

Thanks James! I'm not great with computers and was worried I had messed up. You've put me in a better mood so I'm quite happy now. :) Hopefully I'll have better luck with a Nvidia card.
