Looking for list of essential Windows 7 updates

Hi all,

I've just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1 on a little fanless Bay Trail-M 1.91GHz Celeron N2807 with 4gb RAM and a 128 gb M-SATA SSD. I intend to use this machine exclusively to run Mach3 to control my CNC router - in fact it will boot straight to Mach3 in kiosk mode. I've installed the required drivers, removed the usual crap (IE, Windows Search), and disabled most non-essential services, and the system as it is now runs stable and quite fast. It's all looking quite promising. But wise from previous experience I am loath to run Windows Update; it always seems to make my lean systems explode with bloat, both in terms of diskspace and general system performance. At the same time I know that certain updates would improve speed and stability - but which ones are they? I've looked around here and elsewhere but haven't been able to find a good list of the absolute minimum set of updates to install for max system performance (for example, this should not include the Spectre/Meltdown patches). So I thought I'd check here if anyone might have any tips?
