Looking for Mapped Drive monitor / reconnect tool...

I have a friend with a Windows 7 Home Premium computer, with a mapped drive to another Win7 machine. About once a week, it "forgets" the password to the network share and the drive mapping ceases to function.

Both machines run 24/7. No power savings; no sleep mode, network cards are always online, etc.

I turned on a bunch of auditing options in GP and, still, the Event Log tells me nothing about why it's losing the password.

Now, I could write a startup task to re-map with net use, or even create a shortcut on his desktop to do this. But that's less graceful than I'd prefer.

What I'd really like is a utility to run in the background, monitor the drive mapping and, if it should fail, attempt to reconnect it for us. Anyone know of something like that? (Free is better, but might be worth a small fee.)

Thanks

Try this first:
Create a batch file to map the drive
Create a second user account on both computers
Create a scheduled task that runs every 5 minutes to run that batch file
If the drive is already mapped - the task silently fails.

The reason for the second user account is so that the task can run under an account that will not show the cmd window to the user that is currently logged on. There might be a simpler way to hide the cmd window......

I'll resist the temptation to suggest how to prevent the OS from losing the credentials since you are probably tired of taking that angle and obviously nothing has worked to date.

While this thread is pretty old for anyone else looking for a utility to monitor their network drives and reconnect them i've had a great experience with Network Drive Manager (NDM) Suncross Network Drive Manager for this task.

While not free it's a great tool. It will constantly monitor your network drives and try to reconnect them should they become unavailable.
