looking for HDD drive monitor software

I have a W7 Home Premium 64 bit PC with 2 internal drives and 3 external drives, from 3Tb down in size. Can somebody recommend a good HDD monitoring piece of software? I dont want to be caught by surprise by a failing drive.

Any help is appreciated

Most modern systems have SMART capabilities which should help, this can be accessed through you BIOS settings ....

I like this one a lot - it will monitor the SMART status and record a history which is then used for failure prediction, and it can alert you even through email if a problem is detected. Plus, it's free

What's your HDD brand?

It's best to go your HDD manufacturer's website, find your product and download the latest software from there. Manufacturers have the essential drivers and software that are optimized and are highly compatible for their products so to prevent their clients from using third-party software that might possibly trigger unwanted changes.

I'm not aware of any HD manufacturer actually providing S.M.A.R.T. monitoring software, maybe something very basic - but a SMART monitor program is hardly anything that might "trigger unwanted changes", besides it's an industry standard shared among all IDE/SATA devices and not vendor-specific in any way.
