Hi - I purchased Cool Edit 2000 years ago, My daughter and I have been using it to edit ice skating programs, but i'd like to update to somthing more compatible with W7. Current version does not always run stable. Like and used to the feel of CE. I see Adobe owns it now, and their new product (Audition) is like $300+ range. Do you know if there is an upgrade option for CE that is more reasonable. OR - Has anyone used something similar that is a little more reasonable. I dont mind going about $100. Would like to maybe try a free version to test out first. Thanks for your input.

When you installed it did you specify XP Compatibility mode? Also sometimes if you right click on the program shortcut and select one of the XP choices in the Compatibility Tab it will work better. I was surprised my trusty rusty old XP scanner worked on W7 when I installed the software using XP compatibility mode. No more booting to XP just to do a scan. :)

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

To avoid a lot of Q & A about your hardware and OS configuration, please click on this link to
Edit System Specs

Filling this out, at least partially, will save a lot of time. Another advantage is when posting a new problem, the person answering can just click the My System Specs link in the bottom of your post. No need to search for the information.

If you have multiple systems just indicate that in the System Specs so that we know why many of the fields are blank.

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Recommendations really depends on what type of editing you are doing. If you are primarily just cutting out sections and splicing the remaining parts back together, then most any program can do that. Take a look at Audacity.

UsernameIssues-mostly used for cutting and paste sections, but also do some fading in and out, overlaping/blending, may sometimes adjust timing (make a bit slower/faster (without effecting tone or pitch). Daughter has tried Audacity and didn't like it too much. Dont know if Audacity does the above features - at least the free verison tried.

Boohbah- think i first purchased for w2000, then had used it with XP. Had some issues when trying to record a wav file, the tempo, time and consequently pitch wouild be way off. Dont think she's tried this recoring feature yet with W7. We can eaisly load MP3 to edit, but if we have a CD, we'd usually use the record feature. Ripping would not put it in a format that we could load on CE.

Thanks Both for your input.

The thing you already have may work if you set it to run in XP SP2 Compatibility Mode. It only takes a right click on the shortcut to find out.
