Hi.

I had this problem for a while and thought it was due to the network adapter, got a different one (USB external wifi adapter) and problem persists.

Adobe flash player(youtube, ted talks etc) is notorious for causing this. I would try to watch a video and not that it is very slow to open, it buffers about 10sec and then stops, I usually loose all connectivity at this point and sometimes it will recover but usually I need to either switch or reset network adapter, then its very fast till it happens again.

I also should mention that I tried updating that flash player multiple times but it always prompts me before a content loads due to it being outdated... there is never error during update it states it is updated, so unless adobe releases updates every few hours there is something f%^&y going on

specs:
64bit Win 7 SP1
i7 3770k
16gb ram
gtx780
intel z77 by asrock
ssd drive

adapters:
1- Qualcomm Atheros AR9285
2- Realteck RTL8187 USB 2.0 (802.11b/g 54Mbps)

I tried using alternative browser (i use FF) but it is even slower, more DCs. I would not like to use Chrome however and i do not have it installed.

any help is greatly appreciated as I am getting really frustrated with this.

Hi Royroy,
I'm another car mechanic,
Its possible that this is related to your earlier thread.
Now that adapter is from a laptop, if its installed in your desktop, according to your specs, it might be that its pulling the wrong voltage, and shutting down to protect itself.
However that does not apply to the Realtek device.
There are various fix's that appear on the net
Dissable ipv6
Change the security setting to WPA2
Change the current channel, use auto if possible.
Review the settings in the driver Advanced options,
Then the obvious
Update wifi drivers and Bios

Flash player update is being stopped by IE or group policy settings

Suggest you also run sfc /scannow

cam you elaborate on this? I was looking through the GPO but its so many of them there, google returns how to block updates and doesn't really help me with figuring out which one and how a manual update can be blocked there,

thanks for your suggestions

OK so I just went ahead and removed all previous version of flash, properly installed the new version so thats done...

I am starting to get at this wifi adapter and I am digging out old adapters and the issue is always the same... when I ran a speed test I am getting 1-3mb/s DL and 0-5mb/s UL, where a laptop with the same OS is getting 11 DL and 8 UL, however another laptop I have is getting the same issue as the desktop so I am completely lost...

I tried all versions of drivers for each adapter with or w/o ipv6, WPK2 is the only option I have, channel doesn't change a thing and I think we can roll out a BIOS since I had this computer with current software config for many years without a problem... I will try to run a malware scan... I'm running out of ideas and I really don't wanna format this thing to find out that problem persists since the second laptop (newly formatted and never used, behaves exactly the same)

well i deducted its the poor heat dissipation from all the adapters. with temps going over 30+ the adapter chips were overheating so i have to put small heat sinks on them...
