Solved Losing HDD space when running built in Disk Defrag

Win. 7 Home Premium 64 bit, can someone explain why it is that when I run the "built in windows Disk Defrag" I am losing about 2 GB of HDD space, I am thinking it may have to do with VSS, never had this issue with XP - and if this is the case is there anything i can do about it ?

I do have Auslogics Disk Defrag installed and there is an option to check in the settings that states, if checked it will"minimize growth of VSS storage area caused by file movement" - I have NOT run this app as of yet -

My HDD is small (not SSD) 80GB with 50GB left -

I would appreciate some opinions from the forum here -

The usual causes of loss of HD space are the system restore points or malware/virus. Run a full anti virus scan, download and run a full scan with malwarebytes.
If that does not help, delete your system restore points, then make a new one in case of emergency. VSS is often the cause and reducing the space used by the VSS will help in the future.

I am going to use the Auslogics Disk Defrag program and see if that reduces the size of my HDD like the Win. disk defragger did, I will post the results -

Right now my reserve for VSS (system restore) is set at 4% (2.98 GB), the default for win.7 is 5% -

Recently had to format and reinstall, everything is up and running fine again, I would like to"defrag" the disk with the win. 7 built in defragger, however in the past I generally loose about 2GB of drive space when I do this, I also tried the Auslogic Disk Defrag program with the same results of lost HDD space, I believe the loss is from the VVS (sys. restore) - if I turned off Sys. Restore, rebooted (this should clean out ALL restore points) and then did a disk defrag - do you think that approach would stop the loss of HDD space, then I could turn on and create a Sys. Restore pt. for safety

Quick update: Ran Win 7 "disk defrag" with Sys. Restore OFF and EMPTIED, did NOT loose any HDD space

That was my goal, turned Sys. Restore ON, set new Restore Point and good to go -

Note: Used Auslogic Reg. Cleaner to "compact" Registry then tried to use Auslogic Reg. Defrag to defrag the Registry, the Reg. Defrager would NOT work, apparently Avast was blocking anything from rewriting the registry, I'm good with that, I know most everyone on this forum does NOT believe in Registry defragers -
