Losing network drives

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help answer this. I have one user and her laptop is constantly losing connection to the server. When she loses connection to the server she can still access the internet but not the server or any of the mapped drives. She has to constantly reboot in order to get reconnected to the server and to the mapped drives. I open up windows explorer and all I see is my computer with an hour glass/magnifying glass circling it and it's just hoses the laptop. At first I thought it may be a bad port on the switch so I moved her over to another and just in case i swapped out her patch cable. But that did not do anything. So the next logical step is for me to have her not use the docking station but I doubt that may be the issue. Any suggestions are welcome...

i have not and i wasn't thinking the server was the issue cause she is the only user out of about 50 users that's having this issue. she's rebooting about 3 to 4 times a day. she'll be working on something then will try to access a file on a drive but can't access the drive cause it hoses everything up. She can still access the internet despite losing access to the server.

After reading a Technet thread about the same problem only one solution seems to be working.

There are many other works arounds for this problem in the link below but this one seems to be working the best. Hope it helps.

First start an administrator console by entering cmd into the searchbox on the start menu, right click the little icon and choose "run as administrator".

In the console enter the following commands to change the MTU:

Type into command window "netsh interface ipv4 show interfaces" without the quotes. Take note of the id number of the wireless interface.

Then to change to mtu 1460 use the following command.

"netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface id mtu=1460 store=persistent"

Very bottom of the page shows the working solution for this.

Yes this has already worked to fix this same type of problem but only applies if this is a wireless connection.

Do you have enough licenses on the server for every client?

If you can try removing her computer from the server completely and keep her user account. Reboot the server and reboot her laptop. Now add her computer to the domain/server tree again. Reboot the laptop and the server. See if that works. If it works and the mapped drives are not there just try re-mapping them.

We do have enough licenses and I will try all the suggested end of day since i can reboot the server with 50 users currently relying on it during hours also with the user now in a meeting with her laptop...

FYI to all who posted...the issue was with the docking station. As soon as i had her off that docking station she hasn't had this issue happen once.
