Being a new installation I reformated the c: drive during W7 installation, but after I was done, I really wanted a clean system, so I saved my D: drive data and reformated that.. When I came back up I expected to see an empty D: drive.. But my D: drive now doesn't register.

looking in explorer under computer it is just missing. looking in device manager under computer it is gone.

How can I get it back?

Does drive show up in BIOS? If so, right click Computer > Manage > Disk Management if the drive shows up there right click and format the drive.

Hi ,

What shows in Disk Management ?

Unallocated space?

If so, rt click it and create a new partition.

If it is already a partition - Then as Torrentg says - give it a letter.

I could get to Bios.. But I just reset it to being bootable to a CD, then installed bootable software to check the drive.. I think the drive is failing. I got 31,429 bad sectors and that was with a fast verify rather then a full verify, so it was just a sample of the sectors.

I'm not happy, but I guess in the long run I am glad to find it now, then to loose the data, as this is the drive we save all our pictures, music, documents etc to.. Better this way then to loose important information.

Ok I reformated again ran a fast verify of the disk and when it came back clean, I ran a full verify of the disk and that too was clean.

So I am now going to try to get my drive back.. I got this far with your previous comments. Then got confused..

Controlpanel\Admin tools\computer management\ disk management

It evaluates drive C fine but then puts up a window... "Intialize disk before can be accessed.) I had MBR(masterbboot) or GPT (for disks larger then 2 tb's).. Well I chose MBR because my disk is not even 1 tb.)

Now On the bottom I see Drive 0 & Drive 1 .. Drive 0 is C.. Drive 1 is unallocated. I opp click and really only have a choice of "New simple volumn".. Is this what I want to do?????
