lost ethernet connection in win7 pro

im running windows 7 pro on my main pc, windows 10 on laptop. i rebooted the pc and it installed windows updates. after it installed them and booted up i have no ethernet connection. thinking it was my virgin media hub i rebooted that to find i still have no ethernet connection. so i booted up my laptop to find wireless internet ok, my phones on wireless is ok. in network and sharing it says unidentified network, public network

Try restoring the system to before the updates (should be one just before installing them) - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

If working afterwards, then install them again one by one, a restart after each and check connectivity.

tried restore, soon as it shuts down then reboots it says "windows is installing updates. please dont turn of " etc

Try: After the restore, while booting go into Safe Mode and change Windows Update setting to let me download and install the updates.
