LoTR Battle for Middle Earth 1, random "defeat" in game

Hi all,

I recently installed (and re-installed several times) Battle for Middle Earth 1 by EA Games. Whenever I play the game, after about 3 min all my characters die and I get the defeated message. I have a legitimate Best-Buy bought copy, and I read on some other forums that re-installing the game should help, and I tried running the game in XP service pack 2 compatability mode but nothing has worked. If anyone has had this problem before or has suggestions please let me know.

I know from reading other parts of this forum that the defeat in about 3 and 1/2 minutes means that the computer thinks it is a pirated copy......But thats what I have heard on the second. Not too sure about the 1st one..
