I received an Asus P8Z77-V Premium a week ago and I have been trying to get everything working but I am running into more and more problems and things seem to be going backwards at a fair rate of knots.

I've done two windows 7 x64 ultimate installs over the past week, the first which had SP1 slipstreamed into it and the 2nd just the unmodified install DVD. The first worked until I installed some new software and drivers and then BSOD repeatedly and nothing would get me back into windows. There were no restore points for some strange reason and last known good and safe mode made no difference. I re-installed again today and now I am back to where I started with a non-booting PC. However, this time I do have restore points available but I have already done a restore which did get me back into windows, before it again started BSOD'in. I did uninstall the latest nvidia driver while in safe mode and then BSOD after that until I could not get back into safe mode or windows.

I cannot get into windows to get the dump files and I have no other windows installs ATM to recover them.

There have been some other problems with the keyboard and mouse. While in the Bios, on some occasions, the mouse will not perform a left click but it does move the pointer. The keyboard works okay and can navigate. At some point the mouse starts working fully again.

Another problem has been with the Windows Boot Manager menu which exists from multiple OS's on my previous PC build. Frequently, the keyboard will not respond to key presses to start the boot or move the menu item. I have found that pressing the standby/sleep key on the keyboard makes the keyboard work.

Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro USB connected with a USB mouse connected to the keyboard hub connector - I have no other USB keyboard to change it with to rule it out as a problem, only PS/2
T Balancer Fan controller no drivers installed although I did install some before the BSOD began earlier today however I never installed them with the previous Win 7 SP1 installation.
5 SATA hard drives, 2 Blu Ray re writers, Pioneer BDR-207DBK & Liteon iHBS 112

While starting Safe Mode and watching the logging of where it gets to, immediately before it BSOD's it always stops for a very long time on CLASSPNP.SYS.

Another problem has been with Sleep/ S3 Standby. If my system goes into sleep or I put it to sleep, when resumed, the keyboard and mouse do not function and it will never resume back into windows. I used to use S3 Standby extensively with all my previous PC's and it's meant that my PC has been on for long periods when it would otherwise of been in Standby.

Boot to System Recovery Options . Try Safe Mode with Command Prompt. In the command prompt .... enter the command ....

start msconfig

It will open the system configuration window, with the "general" tab selected.

• Click the "startup" tab. Click "Disable all" > Apply > OK.
• Click on "services" tab. Check the "Hide all Microsoft Services"; Click "Disable all" > Apply > OK

Then try to boot again normally. Is it failing still?

If so, boot to System Recovery Options once again. Try Enable Boot Logging. It will create a file named ntbtlog.txt. Collect it and upload it. If you cannot do it within windows, Boot with a live Linux disc and collect it in a USB stick, use the usb stick in another computer and upload it. It is necessary.

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

• Windows Defender Offline

Download it using another computer, burn in a disc and boot into it, and do the scan.

It did finally show me the option shown on the screen shown in your link and that only allows a command prompt and that doesn't seem to be Safe Mode. It refused to accept the command you suggested, it said that there was a problem with the service.

Safe Mode wouldn't boot anyway so I could not do as you asked.

I have now managed to get back into windows by using System Restore. I have not yet rebooted to check whether it allows me to boot again. The last time I did system restore on this windows it got into windows once and then BSOD every other time.

I have got a dmp file, which might of been after I got into windows after the last system restore. I made copies of the files. I have now set it so it doesn't overwrite them.

I had the same idea about using a Linux CD, however Puppy Linux Slacko let out a noise from my case speaker and froze. SystemRestoreCD also had some problems, locking up, GUI not starting and showing corruption when startx began. The VESA GUI did work but I did not have access to the required partitions. The windows 7 partition did not show.

This system uses a UEFI Bios I believe and I am not impressed so far.

Well, I'm back into windows for the moment anyway. However I still don't know why it BSOD'd. The BlueTooth and Wifi drivers are installed but I did disable both devices in the bios before booting to see if that helped.

It could be something to do with my T Balancer fan controller. That device, a USB to Serial device is now not installed. I don't think that that is a Windows 7 driver, it's a XP x64 driver which did seem to install. Maybe I need to look for an updated driver because I would think that the device is still used. The fan controller control program has not been updated because I downloaded the latest program files which turned out to be identical to the old ones I had. The driver name is FTDI and it does look like an updated Win 7 x64 driver exists, I just hope it works with my hardware.

The main problem here is, as I am seeing, FTDI USB to Serial adaptor. See the Problem Signature 5 you posted above.

The driver is really very old ... even older than the release of windows 7.

I would suggest you to stop using it. But if you want to continue using, update the driver from http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm

You can see that the ASMedia USB 3.0 Hub driver is also failed to load ... so it is also old.

I would suggest you to stop using it. But if you want to continue using, update the driver from FTDI Drivers

It does look like it was that which caused the problem. Being an XP x64 driver didn't help and it was just after that when the BSOD started. I will get the newer WHQL drivers when I re-install them.

Now this surprises me a great deal because that driver is the newest driver from the Asus website and I downloaded it before I began the re-build. I never installed the drivers from the DVD, I started with Asus' most recent. It surprises me that it could be as old as that because I didn't think that USB 3.0 was getting much use 17/18 months ago.

My first install was from a slipstreamed Win 7 x64 SP1 DVD but after the problems that I ran into, I went back to the SP1 free disk in case the slipstreamed DVD was causing any problems.

Free up the startup.

1. Click on the Start button

I will remove the Wifi and Blue tooth stuff because I don't use that, at least after I have tested it to check it works properly. The other stuff I will probably keep.

Which antivirus do you sue?

I usually use Avira, it's just that this was a fresh install and I had not got to install anything yet. I don't have a firewall installed either. I have done 2 windows installs in the past week and I didn't want to have to waste time installing stuff which might not get any use and could just get in the way.

I'm very careful with system security and don't get my system infected. I sandbox my browsers so I don't pick anything up while browsing and that stops 95% of stuff IMO.



I noticed that the SF Diagnostic Tool only works if it is run from the Desktop, it if it run from anywhere else the log files don't get produced. They don't get produced in the Tool home folder for instance and if the SF Tool isn't located on the Desktop the log files don't exist even though it goes through all the steps. To me, it seems like a small bug. I was searching trying to find what it had done with the log files after I ran it from the folder it was downloaded to.

I have to try a reboot shortly and providing everything goes okay, I can get the remaining basic essential software installed.
