Low Hard Drive Scores on Windows Experience Index

This setting improves performance, but a power outage or hardware failure may result in data loss, so I would strongly recommend a UPS (power backup supply).

HD score 3.0
Seagates 3X500GB RAID 0
Mobo evga 780i

Wow, this time I *should* post a *search the forums* reminder....

For those folks using nForce based mobos and Seagates for HDs (and quite possibly Maxtors too) see http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/342-show-us-your-wei-16.html#post10171

This allows you to leave write caching on and still get amazing performance out of your drives - as they were meant to be used.

I too have an EVGA board and Seagate drives....coincidence?

Sort of - the coincidence is the Seagates and Maxtors, not the mobo - those with nForce based mobos can do something about it right now without disabling write caching. Those without are stuck waiting, especially if disabling write caching still doesn't help.

TBH, I am beginning to wonder if it has to do with a weird implementation of SMART that I read about a while back - if W7 is misdetecting that SMART implementation as Command Queuing implementation, then this could be the whole reason this is happening....

Yeah - the link where I figured out the fix for nForce / Seagate users is on page 16 - then the topic kinda died and then picked back up when you posted, Soylent.

I think I am going to organize all those posts *out* of the WEI thread to make them more accessible as their own sticky.

Damn, that's tough, I guess it's more of an issue than Seagate/Maxtor Drives with nForce chipsets.

Thanks for the guy who found out this work out to get back my hdd score!! Hats Off!!!.:D:D I was really in a confused state since my hdd seagate 320 gb with 16 mb cache gave me 3.0 in win7 32 bit and 2.9 in win7 64 bit:cry::cry:... But now i got back my 5.9 in WEI.
One more request..

Can anybody tell me "What is the impact of write caching on WEI and especially basic HDD usage apart from saving data when power failure occurs?"":huh:

Turn it back on!

Don't forget to turn your write-caching back on after your test! Not only is it important for performance, but after you've turned it off, tested it, and turned it back on, it still is fixed!

So if you really want, turn it off, test, then turn it back on and test again. Should be working now. Bug, but at least there is a fix.

hmm, I'm gonna retest without write cahcing on myself. My lowest score (5.9) is my hd now
HD 150G|WD 10K 16M SATA WD1500ADFD - OEM

that's a wd raptor 10,000 rpm, 16mb cache, 1.5 g/bit sata drive. Not the new 2.5 with heatsinks, but still, I thought it was supposed to be fast eh? Before I installed win764 pro I had vista 32 home basic and my gpu (nvidia 8600gts was the low point which is now 6.5 (i think it was 5.6 or lower on vista).

eh, so much for that, still at 5.9. Only have 11 gigs free (the primary partition is 50 gigs, OS only). Would the score be low based on space available? I thought it was a speed test.

Doing a little reading I found out that it is only 1.5 g/bit, not 3.0, but everything I read said it didn't matter anyway as that's only short burst from sdram and most desktops will never see the full 1.5 anyway.
