I get low virtual memory errors all the time. This is a brand new machine, 8GB Ram, 128GB SSD Hard Drive, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Office 2010 64bit. It appears that outlook is the culprit.

Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: OUTLOOK.EXE (5280) consumed 175378432 bytes, svchost.exe (348) consumed 136454144 bytes, and dwm.exe (3856) consumed 114208768 bytes.

This happens at least once a day. All microsoft updates and patches are current according to Microsoft Update.

Welcome!

Make sure the page file is set to be auto-configured by Windows. Go to System Properties and in the Advanced tab. Sorry I cannot give the exact path because I am not using Windows 7 or Vista at the moment, but look around and you will find it.

In that case, set the page file manually to be 3x the amount of installed RAM. If your specs are correct, set the page file for 24GB.

That's what was "Currently Configured" by the automatic settings. However I just changed it to manual. So we'll see how that works.

Hello,

Seems like a Memory Leak. In that case even if you increase the Virtual Memory it will run out maybe a little slow this time. Open Task Manager then add the "Memory (Private Working Set)" column to Task Manager's Processes tab, and sort it in descending order see which process it taking up lot of Memory and see if it's stable or constantly spiking up. If still Outlook that is causing the i would recommend to reinstall Outlook to fix it.

Good Luck,
Captain

I agree on the memory leak, it seems to get worse over time. I had office 2007 on here prior to 2010 and outlook did the same thing on it. I had hoped that office 2010 would fix the issue, but it didn't. Which also makes me think that a re-install wouldn't help since going from 2007 to 2010 was technically a reintsall. :(

Interestingly enough, I'm having the exact same issue on a completely different machine. Dell Inspiron zinoHD 2GB RAM, AMD Athlon 2650e, 230GB HDD, Windows 7 Pro 64bit. However it gives this error in event log.

Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: svchost.exe (2156) consumed 76677120 bytes, svchost.exe (928) consumed 70885376 bytes, and CCC.exe (2836) consumed 55451648 bytes.

So this leads me to beleive it may be a Windows 7 problem. Or perhaps a windows 7 problem in conjunction with common software installed on both machines. But the inspiron doesn't have Office on it at all, nor virus scanner. The only program used on it is IE8 (guess this is common between the two)

The Catalyst Control Center (CCC) should be removed. It is unnecessary, and has even caused problems such as BSODs before. I can't recall ever seeing it memory leak, but it won't hurt to remove it.

Download Processor Explorer

Open it then go to View | Select Columns | Check on Private Bytes

Then press OK. Then sort the list by Private Bytes and see which process it taking up lot of Memory and see if it's stable or constantly spiking up. Note down which process is leaking. Process Explorer will allow you to expand and know which process is running under svchost.exe

Good Luck,
Captain

I have an identical problem on a Dell Precision M4500 with i7 processor running 4GB Ram, Windows 7 64-bit...

BIOS recently upgraded, 7/20, to A04.

I just downloaded Processor Explorer and will report back my findings. It does not take long for this issue to occur and it usually happens when I leave the system idle for a while.

It is, however, extremely annoying and I would like to get the problematic process killed off for good.

Ran process explorer on both machines, nothing seems to be out of whack. I did some further troubleshooting and found this however.

This only happens to the machines if they are on our Domain. I took the Inspiron off the domain completely and the problem went away, it's running like a champ.

I trid a little different approach on the Precision M4500. Instead of removing it from the domain, I created a "test" organizational unit in our Active Directory, then made it to where no GPO's were applied to it, (just to rule out that it may be caused by one of my group policies). Let the computer run overnight, and when I came back in the next morning it still had low memory error. So I then took this machine off the Domain, and it's been fine. So it's got something to do with the domain... not looking forward to troubleshooting this one.

^^ Interesting...

My M4500 is registered to a domain however I do not connect to the domain as I work in the field. No VPN connection either so effectively I should have the cord cut from the domain the PC is registered to.

I also have not been able to identify a rouge process that appears to be causing this issue.

would be interesting to see if you took it off the domain if it would stop....

Yes, that is certainly a possibility but I can't say it will definitively happen. I do have a colleague that just received a M4500, he is here on site at a customer location with me, and I will discuss it with him. He does not have the M4500 with him now but he has mentioned he will be removing the domain from his M4500.

He has not booted the laptop yet and does not know if he has this memory issue.

I will update this thread with anything I find.

AtomicVette and RedRocket204,

I need your domain specs:
Domain Server Version (i.e. 2003, 2003 R2, 2008, or 2008 R2)
Domain Mode (Native or Mixed)
Are all the Domain Controllers the same? (All 2008 R2 or are there some remote DC's 2003 R2 but the home DC's are 2008 R2 etc.)
Workstations: Are all workstations Windows XP or newer? (If you have Windows 2000 or Windows NT I need to know).
What version of Exchange (Exchange 2003, 2007, 2010)? Are all the Exchange Servers the same version? Or do you have mixed Exchange (i.e. some 2007 and some 2010).

How is the network setup?:
What is the LAN Speed?
What is the WAN Speed?
All TCP/IP or are there other protocols (i.e. IPX or Mac)?
IPv6 running on the network?

This may be a difficult one to figure out but since we have 2 different domains with the same issue we can look for the common problem.

I assumed you were the IT guy. :) Not to worry then. I would enter a trouble ticket with your IT department and have them resolve it. Maybe they will post here and we will still get a chance to resolve it. :)

If you don't have admin rights I will be diffucult to resolve this. Do you think your IT department will join the forum or work with you???

eh, we're a relatively small company and our IT is a bit hands off. We have admin rights on our laptops. IT will not support anything we do that is outside their IT support realm. If we have major issues with our laptops, we are given a ghost image to start over.

That being said, the information you seek will most likely be given to me once I can get them on the phone :geek:
