During the day, if we leave the computer alone, screen goes black, after a while, fans turn off. Wireless mouse wakes it up just fine. Fans startup before the screen is completely ready to go.

During the night, the screen is dark, but the fans almost never stop.

Why?

Is something running in the night like a full scan of your antivrus program?

BRILLIANT! Wish I thought about that stuff!

I checked, the virus scan was set to run Sunday night at 9PM. That should not take long [unless it scans all of the server's drives]

Nothing else I know of runs at night, but that was changed to 9AM.

I don't believe that is the issue...

Any other ideas?

See what happens now that u changed the time, see what else could be running, any other programs set to do scans at night? Look in the task bar on the right bottom side and look at the programs that start up when windows does. Something else there might be scanning .none should scan at the same time, that puts a lot of resources on the hard drive which would make it hot enough for the fans to stay on

The only thing in the tray that runs on a timer is Security Essentials.

It's an SSD, so defrags are disabled.

Last night, it sat from a fresh boot. Nothing was run. It stayed awake all night. [Checked it several times during the night]

lol you stayed up to see if the fans were running? such dedication

Even though it stayed awake (you have the monitor set to go to sleep?) or it set to hibernate? did the fans stop spinning? because as stated that was the problem in the first place

Not dedication, I'm OLD [44] and I kept waking up. When I did, I'd check to see if the fans were making noise. They were...

44 is NOT Old. I wish I was 44 again. I have no idea about your problem. Seems your system is a Night owl.
