I have cloned a Win 7 disc many a time but run into problems when cloning a larger disc.... I end up with a blank unused segment. I am trying to clone a 240Gb ssd on to a 500gb ssd.... it's only cloning the 250gb disc and leaving the rest blank.

Is there a way to stop this, or is the a way to extend the un-wanted blank as if to give me a bigger drive I am selecting clone, should I be selecting image instead?

Thanks, Dave

You might be able to extend the windows partition into the blank one. If the blank one is after the windows one, you should be able to do this in disk management (Administrative Tasks, on the Control Panel). you want the blank partition to read "free space." If it does not say "free space," the "extend partition" option will be grayed out when you right-click on the windows partition. If so, right click on the unwanted partition and delete it. then it should read as "free space." Then you should be able to right click on the windows partition, and select the extend option. The default should be the maximum amount of space, which is what you want. So choose the default.

-sorted-

Michael, you are a star.....!
Done and sorted thanks to you.... easier than shelling peas it was - I've made a note of that. I did have a wee problem getting the number in, I managed at the third attempt.

Thank you again, the problem is now solved. Best wishes to all and thanks for the replies.

That's great, Davy. Some folks are afraid to use Disk Management, but it's really pretty straightforward, as you have discovered. If you need help, the Help feature is actually really helpful. That's how I learned to use it, in fact.

Yep, I've used Disk management BUT never played at shifting partitions - now I know, thanks for you helping out, had little fun entering the numbers, gee, sure did make shelling peas look more hard work. I was almost thinking I'd need install relevant software.

Never had any problems though when I used Acronies True Image, I stopped that some while ago now and went to Macrium, BTW, I too run Win 7 SP1 64 bit.

Thank you again, fully appreciated, Dave
