Macrium Reflect Issue

I have used the free edition of Macrium Reflect to save a image of my pc to a usb 3 external drive and restored from this drive before too with no problems at all, but today when I try it wont do it (maybe i'm doing it wrong but don't think so worked before ?) ..... when I try to restore an image the program tells me the following drive is in use and restore can not continue (is this new ?) automatic boot not available in free edition ? .... then it goes on to say automatically boot into widows PE, but this option not available in free edition ....... so do I take from this u can save a image in free edition but u cant restore it anymore ?

I have the free edition and do not have a problem.
You put the USB into the drive and then you get the notice?
The problem may be with your drive or the USB has been corrupted. Can you make another Boot USB?

drive ok can read and right to it (can you make another boot USB) sorry not sure what u mean, but if yours ok probably down to part of my original problem that I messed up earlier by not backing up a sub folder in regedit I back up the hkey_loca_machine cant get it to open or back up too big or something and think I deleted something from the wrong folder that was connected to usb3 on my pc, going to try plug it in usb 2 see if that works

You are notified by Macrium when they are giving updates. There has not been one for a while. If yours worked with the last update, the problem is on your end.

I got an update today don't know what it was but I downloaded before I tried the program last time I used program was 12 12 14

Next time I use Macrium, I will get the update. I will not download it until this is solved. I do believe it is not the update, though.

I have the free edition and have only tried restoring from the boot CD(Windows PE or Linux). Not sure if that's the "automatic boot" you refer to, but no problems with the free edition. But it requires the USB to be connected to a USB 2.

Just though I'd mention that USB sticks are notoriously unreliable. Personally I create system image backups in a folder on a non-windows partition and have never had a problem restoring an image using the bootable Macrium USB.

In other words - you made a mess of your system. I think you should first fix that registry.

That sounds like your stick is formatted in Fat32. For backup it must be formatted in NTFS (because of the blocksize larger than 4GBs).

Problem solved.

I've also narrowed it down to this option (but also don't a have a restore point I can reach now that was before the event ?? but I did ?) but also trying to make the rescue disk now, not before and cant find drivers for it to work in practise now the rescue media is saved on a external usb 3 hard drive can create the rescue disk but it cant access the usb 3 storage

why not simply connect to usb2 port!?

would this make a difference ? .... are u saying it been on USB 3 is the reason it cant find it ?

usb2 is kind of generic thing. It can use a generic driver and works always.
usb3 need special drivers... but you can inject them!!
usb2 and macrium works out of the box

my usb 3 external drive wont work on usb 2 just tried, its not there in my computer but is when plugged into usb 3 ....... how would I find drivers for it on my system they must be there ?

What model external is it, if it is powered off just usb then it might not get enough juice through usb 2. It should show up in the devices and printers area of the control panel.

If your USB3 drive does not work on USB3 and USB2, then something is wrong with the drive. But if that is a spinning 7200RPM disk, then lack of power may be the culprit.
