BACKGROUND. For several years I've been simultaneously owning 2 or 3 units of the same laptop model -- the Toshiba Satellite P875-S7200 using Windows 7. Specs:

This model is about 8 years old but such a great one (17", 2 USBs on each side etc) that I'm quite attached to it. I rotate from one machine to another (transferring a main SSD and an unused HDD) after because I've used whichever other for about 8-10 months, things start acting funny and not working right. When I switch the drives over to another unit all works great because that unit's gotten some rest. Question #1: why do these puters need a rest period?

NEW QUIRK -- MAIN POINT. Since making one of the above switches a few days ago, a favorite program doesn't appear in the Open With box and its shortcut was gone from the desktop -- happens to be WordPerfect 12. (We all like 'classic' stuff around here, right?) I can open WP12 from the Start Menu but it's heck opening a document from within it = paging thru menus for the one I want. If I do 'Open file location' for WP12 to open the program itself, the path is one I can't transfer to a separate 'Open file location' to open a desired WP12 document directly -- and can't I can't page backward from it:

Question #2: what gives? What to do about it? I've tried searching the problem in Youtube and Google but the advice given doesn't work for me.
