Make Windows 7 remember window positions and size!

The new way is terrible!! I like things to stay where I put them. Think of it this way I get a bigger house and my door randomly move on me. That woudl drive me crazy.....this is no different. They should make it an option like it was in the past. As far as getting use to it no I wont I will be buying desksofts windows manager.

This Windows 7 bug is different from Vista's bag problem. 7 only remembers ONE window size and postition. That is the last open window. Totally retarded bug. I have no idea why they would ship the final with this MAJOR bug. Total fail on MS part.

One bug I found with this new way, is that if the thing I want to click is on the right size of the window, near the edge, and I double-click it, *but* another item in that same column goes beyond the edge, my selected item will not open, and instead the entire window will "pan" across one screen. This is *utterly* confusing, and practically forces me to resize and move windows constantly.

Agreed 100%. I have noticed the same thing.

Also, If you maximize a folder window with "list view," on my 1680x1050 screen there are a maximum of 44 items in one column before it goes to the next. In Vista I am not sure what the number was, but I am positive it was much more, because I had certain folders where I could fit everything in one column (I have lots of external drives that I like to open as tall skinny windows side by side tiled) and now in 7 they require two columns. It is as if the font is bigger or there is spacing between the folder contents, or both. Either way it is a waste of screen space, nobody needs gaps between their files in the list display.

Looks like a good program though.

I did purchase WindowManager, and it did work for the RC - now I amk using RTM, and it only works for about 2 weeks...

bringing this up again.
i've used windowmanager but its so frustrating and it craps winamp and other program windows.

theres got to be something we can do...its one of the stupidest things MS has ever done in an OS.
instead of developing MS went backwards as this critical feature is available both it XP and VISTA...
windows 7 is a great OS it realy is but this...bug or annoyance is really starting to piss me off!

what is the mail of windows 7 feedback? we should all spam the hell of it until they get it fixed!

Shayx, just delete everything in WindowManager, and add all the windows your want to have it modifying, after that then add one thats blank.. Then WindowManager doesnt add or modify any windos anymore.

Could you give a little more info on exactly how you do this.

This is a good little program but I also found it got bogged down with too many pages. I just want it to save a couple and that's it.

Tried that little prog, yeah, works ok, xie xie for that ( with DeepFreeze, my "day 1 of 30" starts every time I boot up !!!)

ok that seems to be better.
but i'm still having an annoyance, lets say i minimized a window
than i went to the preview of it in the taskbar and closed it.
next time it opens=minimized.
also if you open a program and fit it to the left side or right side of the screen (dividing the screen to 2)
i stays there instead of returning to the same state.

I always set my special windows to this position this size so they are always in the same place so i have not noticed that problem. However I like the blank suggestion it has been great thank you

Not sure where you got that from, but I have this (attachment) what I used for Vista, and if it's correct like some have said, that some Vista tweaks work with 7, people can give it a try if they want. I'm on a fresh install, and so far haven't come across the issue, but I did on my last installation, but never thought to use the reg file.

With Autosizer you have to configue every window manually. Window Manager does it automatically.

And I still can figure out how to have either of these do what I want.
Like opening My Computer, going into a drive and any folder, resisze and move the folder and close it. When I open My Computer, it is the size and position of that folder I just resized.
In Vista or XP if I did that, My Computer would be the size and postiton of the last closed My Computer window.
I emailed the author of Window Manager yesterday asking how to do this. No reply yet.

I have got autosize to work for a split second and then Windows Explorer changes size and position to default. Need to find Registry keys to modify. I have no doubt that someone will get a fix for this.

with auto sizer even if you configure the windows it works once and then the program ignores the window. this is a real shame from Microsoft.

God damn microsoft. This is my first post and decided to register on this forum, to post my incredible frustration with the removal of the "remember each folder's view settings" option from the "folder and search options" menu.
Here I am with the x64 ultimate version of windows 7 fully purchased installed and registered and this retarded lack of this feature is already making my blue blood boil.
I propose a mobilization of everybody who want's this setting implemented and we all email microsoft about it and then make a petition for this feature to be implemented back in.
I think a petition would really ruin a few hundreds of microsoft's sales at least and if it's successful enough it might even counteract their marketing at this point in time.
So we really need to act now or stfu forever!
