Hi guys. Have a lame question.

I want to make files appear above folders in Windows Explorer. I sort my files in this particular folder by Date, and when new files were added, they were all in the beginning of the folder. However, today suddenly the folders started appearing on top, and the files were pushed to the bottom. I've tried all possible ways of trying to get the files to be shown first. Could you please help me? I use extra large icons by the way.

Hi mate. Thanks for the quick response. I did look through that tutorial before starting this thread.

What I'm trying to go for though, is to sort the files by the date they were added, and it works when I choose "Sort by Date". And it used to work before, where the files just kept being added on top. However, I don't know what changed and suddenly the files are at the bottom, and the subfolders in that folder now show up on top. Not sure if I'm explaining it properly?

Hello Shank,

You could do this by clicking on View (menu bar), Sort by, and click on Descending instead of Ascending. The files will show in reverse order, but the files will be above the folders.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hey Shawn!

First off, thanks for collating and writing the tutorials! They are really useful.

I tried what you suggested, and it didn't work. It's weird because it was fine before.

So I tried customizing the folder and chose it to be General Items instead of Videos, and voila! Was able to click Sort by Date Modified. And now the files are above.

That's great news Shank. I think you may have just needed to be using "Details" view, but I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted. :)

I know this is an old thread but I just had this problem as well. Thanks shank for the solution.

Also, when I optimised a folder (for documents) it worked but when I tried to optimise a library it didn't! :)
