Solved Male ide hard drive to sata adapter

i have a Dell 280 with a IDE Hard drive. I want to change to a Sata drive using one of these adapters. Dell has one for $17.99. Do these things actual work without reducing H/D speed and has any one used/ tried one?

I saw your adapter on the Dell site.

The currents SATA drives are either:
SATA Revision 1.0 (SATA 1.5 Gbit/s)
SATA Revision 2.0 (SATA 3 Gbit/s)
SATA Revision 3.0 (SATA 6 Gbit/s)

Basically the majority of drives on the market are SATA Revision 2.0.
When using an SATA Revision 2.0 or the newer SATA Revision 3.0 drive, the adapter will limit your speed to that of an SATA Revision 1.0 drive.

Thanks for your reply . The dell Product NO. was A1570573 and there is no mention of Sata Revisions 1.5 etc. Just plug and play setup. I'll call Dell just to confirm...

Checking the technical specs, it gives the interfaces as Ultra ATA-133 and Serial ATA-150.
You will go from 133 Mb/s to 150 Mb/s. You won't notice a difference.

If you hook up any of these drives..........Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Hard Drives,Internal Hard Drives,SATA 3.0Gb/s they'll be limited to half their speed.

You did it ! the Dell link is showing in reply. I read through the Tutorials , not much luck to get the link in my message. I'm running Explorer Beta 9 , I'm sure this would not have an effect or would it.

If you could just give me the " key" were do I start to locate "add a link" I've checked on my Heading for the post, nothing there.... just a lead would help.

Back to the Adapter some good news... the early Dell 280 still had IDE but the later units have the Sata drives, which I have..... read, read or open the Box dummy , which I now have. Problem solved.
