USB to SATA Adaptor Fails after first use

I recently purchased a USB 3.0 to SATA adaptor for connecting to an external 3.5" hard drive. USB SATA Adaptor

When ever I plug it into any USB port for the first time, it works. Thereafter, the computer will not recognize the device. I can go to computer management, but it wants to initialize the disk. I've already put all the information I wanted to store on the disk. Same symptoms on two different computers. If I install the hard drive in a computer then it works normally. I'm concluding the device is junk unless someone can tell me how to make it work.

Ok Atom mate di that adaptor come with any software CD? Secondly when you plug the device in have you got the power on for it as I always plug in and then power the device up.

One more thing mate could you please update your system specs.
Now before we can help we do need to know what is in your machine so please do this System Info - See Your System Specs
or either enter the specs of your system in your forum profile the specs will appear when we click on that little box bottom left of the post screen it is for me the preferable option as it is easy. As you may appreciate it is very hard when you don’t know what one is working with for example a diesel or petrol engine.

As it happens, one machine is a Lenovo Thinkpad T550 running Win 7 Enterprise and the other is a homemade machine running Win 7 Pro. I get exactly the same result on both machines. The first time I plug it in to any USB port, it works on that port. After that, it will no longer work unless I go to a different port. I've tried several ports, and it's the same every time. I have been plugging the cable into the USB port with the power already on. It did come with a disk, but no instructions on what it was for. The instructions said just plug it in and start using; that works only one time. At the moment, I have it connected to the mobo in the conventional way and I'm using it

Ok so if you insert that CD does it give you any options to download a driver or software it requires to use that adaptor?
Now having said that I have never comes across this problem before or have to install drivers etc
The odd thing is that this happens on two machines and multiple ports for just the one off use

I think that it is either that it does require some dedicated software or the device is not quite right somehow.

At last count I had four of differing models / setups and the one I use is a Vantec brand - a bit more expensive than the others but very reliable. I am not suggesting you replace it or what but I reckon it might be worthwhile getting a replacement form where you bought the device.

If you did want to replace it altogether then the device I mentioned is here Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter CB-ISATAU2-Newegg.com this one is slightly different to my device as mine does not have the IDE connection.

It might be worthwhile running these too
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 (if you are going to use the /r switch there is no need for the /f switch)
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

Attach the device and open Device manager to see if it has installed the driver.
If it did not, right click and make it search on the web.

The drive will intermittently show up in the device manager. When it does and I update driver it tells me the driver is up to date.

When I do to disk management, it says the disk needs to be initialized. Again, the problem does not occur if I connect the drive directly to motherboard.

I have asked the vendor to return the device.

Ok well me I do not use the Windows update driver feature a I find it leaves a lot to be desired preferring to use the manufacturers site for any driver.

Anyway see how the seller responds.
