Solved Malwarbytes in System Tray! Alabama Tick

I am upset now that Malwarebytes remains in the system tray after closing. This happened with new versions of CCleaner and some of us reverted to a version before the change. Anyone know which Malwarebytes version before this annoying behavior started? Changing the settings does not help because it attaches itself after every run.

You could try Autoruns and disable it. But if you use Malwarebytes as a live scanner, then you won't want to do that.


In Autoruns under the Everything tab (which should be by default on launch), in the search box begin by typing malwarebytes. You should find its entries.

Other than that and the programs settings where it would have the option I don't know.

As to Ccleaner, give System Ninja a try. You may find out it deletes far more temp files. Don't delete folder config files.

Again I am unclear. The new versions of Malwarebytes is NOT auto-starting at boot. After a scan and followed with an exit/close it remains in the tray. However, it will re-appear at next boot if one does not 'quit' the tray app prior to computer shutdown.


No matter, my point is that this app has changed in an undesirable-to-me behavior.

I run version 3.6.1, it gives you a 14 day trial and then after that it`s free, you don`t get all the goodies, but who needs em.

I do not have it run at startup, I only use to run a scan whenever I feel like it.

It does not stay in the system tray after closing it.

If you know what you`re doing with a PC, you will never get any of these so called Viruses, Malware, etc

And don`t let it Auto Start.

The latest "stable" version of Malwarebytes is buggy. I had to roll back to the image I made before upgrading to it because it kept turning off web protection.

If you know what you`re doing with a PC, you will never get any of these so called Viruses, Malware, etc

If this is a 'rule', then I definitely know what I'm doing with a PC. Typically, I run this tool when my machine does not 'feel' right or misbehaves. Never finds anything, and a re-boot usually solves the weirdest happenings. A system restore takes care of anything a reboot won't. It's my understanding that these virus, malware, etc. happen to people that surf in waters they should really avoid.

There are three kinds of computer users, those who had a virus and know it, those who have one and don't know it (these are usually the ones who don't use protection), and those who haven't gotten a virus yet.

It doesn't matter how careful anyone is, anyone can get a virus. The difference between those who don't use protection and those that do is the former are far more likely to get one and have no way to know when they get one. Unlike those in the past, today's viruses are more likely to run silently, or nearly silently, in the background, harvesting your data and/or using your computer to infect others or harvest data from others. They do not want you to know you arre infected so they can continue to reap whatever from you. The only way you will know if you get infected is to have good antivirus and antimalware protection in place.

One exception to this are the cryptoviruses. However, by the time you know you have one, it's too late. Your data has been encrypted and lost until you cough up a ransom (and maybe not even then).
