I just bought malware bytes pro because people said it was good. It has real time protection unlike others.
I have used AVG, Norton, MSE which I wasn't very happy about..
I seem to like it but is it protecting my PC good? I heard MalwareBytes has a good reputation for getting viruses and others

I only know it as a scanner where it is OK. Never knew anybody who uses it for full time protection. And for scanning I prefer SAS (Superantispyware). It has found things in the past that Malwarebytes has missed.

MBAM has excellent detection rates and is very highly regarded among the malware removal community :) But, as the others said, it shouldn't be used as an anti-virus because that's simply not what it was built for. The Malwarebytes team has some huge names in malware removal, you may have heard of some of them, or at least their tools:

Merijn - Developer of HijackThis (HJT) and CWShredder (for CoolWebSearch infections)
Swandog46 - Developer of The Avenger (a kernel mode tool for deleting stubborn files)
sUBs - Developer of ComboFix
S!Ri - Developer of SmitFraudFix

You can. Malware Bytes is not needed, but true you can.

Your system will run slower since you be having your computer and your files investigated by two programs rather than one.

Incidentally, MSE is the same AV used in a Microsoft enterprise system.

Use the link I have already given to familiarize yourself with Microsoft's malware solution approach.

Yes, I think it's safe to say that that's a good combo :) It's what I, and many others here, use.

It is a good combination with no conflicts.

Malwarebytes Pro has several features that I don't think are in the free version: scheduled scanning, realtime protection, and auto-updates.

If you use a search engine, you can usually find a discount coupon for the Pro version that will take 5 or 10 dollars off the price of the lifetime license. I've seen it as low as $13.

I have to disagree with MSE being all that's needed, and that adding Malwarebytes will slow your system. I have no problem with anyone recommending MSE, but to say it is the only thing needed is a different thing. A multilayered approach is always good as long as the programs don't conflict.

I have Avast with Malwarebytes Pro and Superantispyware Pro, all 3 running real time protection, and they don't slow down my system at all. MSE is highly regarded, but no one program will catch everything. IMHO. A Guy

Malwarebytes real time protection will often pick up things that others miss. It is also designed to co-exist with other AV programs such as MSE, Avast and Norton and so is a good choice for a multilayered protection.

No antivirus is perfect, but I've used Malwarebytes to clean up systems that had Norton installed and it removed viruses Norton didn't, lol. I, personally use MSE as realtime protection and Malwarebytes as a scanner and I haven't gotten a virus in a long time (unless I infected a virtual machine on purpose:D)

The other thing you may like to try is SuperAntiSpyware. I use the free version which is not real time. It picks up and deletes tracking cookies amongst other things. The link is in my signature.

MSE (real time) with MBAM (on-demand) is pretty much what I use. I also have SpywareBlaster installed (on-demand), but considering that MSE hasn't had anything to catch, and MBAM hasn't found anything either, I'm unsure there is any value in whatever SpywareBlaster is doing. But it only runs when I run it, so it doesn't do any harm, so I just keep using it.
