I have Dell Laptop inspiron 1501 duel boot win 7 & win 10, I installed Malwarebytes 3.0 it had so many issues decided to delete it and that was next to impossible used there program it didn't work, used Revo it said it got rid of it but didn't. I moved it around and got it in the trash. Next I wanted to get rid of reg entires CC Cleaner and Malwarebytes killer & assassin & others didnt. I tried permissions but I really don't know if I'm doing it right but got the same error messages. This used to be good program but from what I read new one has issues. Ive read threads here but havent been able to get any to work correctly probably my lack of knowledge but I'm determined to fix this. I'm hoping someone has had same issue and found a way to delete reg entires maybe a link to read, I've been studying the permission and how to do it, hasn't worked yet, seems to be a lot of post about this problem but none are marked Solved. .in regedit I use search for malwarebytes in left side ,I right click > permissions> opens new window > click advance > click my name & sub folders click ok> back to permissions window , check boxes for allow click ok > back to regedit and right click delete and I get error can't be deleted,,, so thats where I'm at..

Hello and welcome vtails now mate your post lost me a bit in the text an what I could not figure out is just what are you trying to get rid of now??

The programs you mentioned are never usually an issue especially CCleaner. Now there is a way to delete registry entries but I have to say unless you are pretty confident in making changes in there then it is best left alone

Having said that we are more than happy to help you do that as long you again are confident enough to do that and can follow info on doing said task.

It seems they rushed MWB3 out.
I suspect that your problem lies more within W10:confused:, major compatability issues, W7 fine:) as far as i know.

Its unlikely that youll clear all the registry errors, got any restore points/images prior to install, if so use them.

Otherwise your best bet is to remove the folders, Programs/Programsx86, and the hidden ones in Appdata.
check task scheduler as well remove any.

Go back to MWB2, still available turn OFF auto updating.

ICIT2LOL- I'm trying to get rid of Reg entries left behind by malwarebytes, I am sure I've got permissions set and get error unable to delete specified values, haven't been able to clean any out using a few reg editors,.
Layback Bear Yes that was what I tried first and D/L 3X times they wouldn't uninstall the program.
torchwood sorry it's on win7 Never had any issues editing reg before I installed Malwarebytes .
I stupidly installed this on 2 other win 7 computers and Its the same problem Couldn't uninstall though Windows uninstall got error COULDN'T OPEN UNINSTALL.DAT, so I went to program and tried there same error. I used Revo to try and uninstall it said it did but it was all still there, so I got the file moved around and then put it in the trash,,, then tried to use CC cleaner and it says it deleted but on a rescan they are all still there, D/L a bunch of different reg editors none of them worked, I have followed info on How to set permissions so I could have full control Still get that error. I wiped the other computers and reinstalled windows on them. The other problem issue with going back to early date I set them and they aren't there any more except the win7 that I did on an external drive issue the is I didn't have win10 on yet so when I did a restore once before it wiped my win 10 install,
I I want to do is delete reg entries I contacted malware and they sent me all the info to how to INSTALL and I did that and went back though process of deleting, I've read around web lots of same issues and I tried there method but it hasn't worked,, I'm stopping. I found 29 entries to delete. I really hope someone had installed this 3.0 version and found a way to fix it. Funny you have to find out you have to get special uninstall from them.

Sorry for not getting back, I had to fly righthand seat, new guy didn't show. I have always made a backup of reg. For some reason I have a list of 6 backups and none of them is the one for malwarebytes and there is no restore points except for when I did an ext. Bak of wine I was was going to use but it was only for my wine before I made it a duel with win 10.
So after reading some more about the issues with this I decided it be easier to fight with MS over installing win 7 again than to keep trying to delete reg, so I'll just reinstall win 7 from disk, problem solved. I had hoped that someone would know how to delete a protected reg ent. Maybe next time...

Hmm well a lot of us are reasonably acquainted with the registry but what you are asking is really for someone who is a wizard at that sort of stuff and I would guess there are some members who are just that. Trouble is it is near impossible for anyone to view each and every thread as you might appreciate.:p

vtails a Clean Install is surly one way of removing things.

Well First off, from my experience it is difficult to find everything from most security programs when trying to remove them.

Security programs like anti virus and anti malware programs are designed to protect them selves as much as possible so the bad guys can't turn them off.

Their is no magic wan that finds all the leftovers from such programs.
The last anti virus program I removed using their tool did a poor job.
I still found over 100 entries in the registry. (I stopped counting at 100).

Malwarebytes has a extra self protection mode.
Under Settings/Advanced settings/Enable self-protection module.
I would suspect if that module was active things would be even tougher.

Yes mate I agree with Jack a clean install is just about the most foolproof way of getting things back to normal.

Now I would say just one thing though and that is when I do a clean install I always make sure the drive is cleaned or wiped with DISKPART or Partition Wizard so that I am fairly sure nothing from the original install is left behind.

Now I have to add that that is me being a little pedantic but from past experience I find this the only thing to do with the drive first after finding a straight format sometimes leaves remnants of the previous install which can cause issues with the clean install. Mind you a new drive circumvents having to clean the drive first and it would certainly give you the opportunity to install on a SSD as well. But it is your budget and choice of course.

Ok I Thought that since I was going to wipe 7 I would experiment I D/Led PStools and run as system and a hand full of reg cleaners, I opened PSTools and run as system program and used it to open and run the cleaners and also took 4-5 different cleaners and it WORKED !!! I am happy camper it did take all night but I got it done ... man I was worried that I'd have to talk to MS about the reinstall, but I think the main program that helped the most was "RUN AS SYSTEM"
So maybe someone will need help getting rid of program or reg entries and try D/Ling RUN AS SYSTEM see if it helps them out.
So now I will try and do a backup of Win7 and Win10 with an EXT drive I have and I hope I can get them separately so if I need to restore I only have to do one or the other !!!

Hi Vtails,

Good to here,
Just had a thought about MWB, did you have the trial installed, ie real time protection.
If yes then you would have had to turn off self protection before un-installing.

Ok well glad it is all good so far and it is good that you used that software as personally I am not a fan of those that promise all sorts of wonder cures - snake oil fixes as someone once described them as.

Good luck with the reinstall and you might be just as well to try and do that using an image see this it might be of use to you
Imaging with free Macrium the only thing is I don't know how you will go with that ?dual boot.

The good thing is I don't have to reinstall, I got that info and help at Bleeping computers, they dont like people starting over I had to submit all the log files and they gave me solution so I'm happy that don't have to go install again. I know it sounds like snake oil but it worked. I had paid version 3.0 and after back and forth they gave me back my money and also told me I was the ONLY ONE that ever had a problem with mwb ! Ever.
I'm curious as to why these 2 programs are called snake oil I don't want to crash and burn after spending time a lot of it to get things working again. ?

No mate I think I may have worded my post a little better the program you used is fine - I meant some of the rubbish that goes around promising wonder cures for reg fixes, finding drivers etc etc.;)

I am a fan of Bleeping Computer in any case it is a really good site as I am this one Gizmo's Freeware I use them all the time for finding free AV's for example which I try out on my tester desktop:cool:

I was worried that my Hours of work would end up crashing. Now I need to see if I can get a backup of win 7 , I have ext. 320 gig drive, I'm going to split it in half and see if I can get a backup on one and then do win 10 on the other, sounds simple but it Never works out that way.
I'm glad to here bleeping sites OK I've used them long time back. I'm starting to find out that it takes multiple sites anymore to get some problems fixed. I guess it's time to jump over to the Win 10 site here and see if I can get it reliable .
