Due to a shrinking wallet, I am switching from pay programs to free ones whenever possible. I went to the download site for Malwarebytes. There was a free program and a pay one. I downloaded the free one and it appears it is a Trial Program. I was under the impression Malwarebytes was a free program. Can someone verify this for me. Thanks,

It is free but unless you unchecked box which is checked on the download to try the trial that is what it activates,
The only option I see is to Uninstall and re-download and make sure you Uncheck use the trial version.

Everyone gets in a hurry when downloading stuff and forget to read every install option window
Just remember the free version does not self update,

That is correct. The free version is for consumer home use only and must be manually updated before doing a scan. We update the database rules about 6 times or more per day every day. Currently the paid version comes with a lifetime license.

Unfortunately it really does not matter how many times you manually update the free version because the free version does not provide Real time protection,
So unless your running a full scan after each time you update it will not make any difference,
The Pro version self updates on what ever setting you choose,
Two or three times a day is plenty/ Morning on startup-lunch-end of the day with a full scan,

Actually running a Full scan is not really recommended. It is there mainly to allow flat file scanning but with no reference to a load point any such files are harmless unless one manually launches it. Doing a daily full scan will only help to lower the life expectancy of your hard drive. We recommend only using the Quick Scan which will detect and remove all threats linked to any type of load points.

The paid version has real time protection both file and web blocking of site known to participate in various types of threats. The automated updates and scanning are nice features that most users want but the real power is in protecting your computer before it becomes infected. There are a couple of threat types such as those that encrypt your data or file infectors that damage your data that without backups you will lose that data period there is no way to get it back except from a backup of your data (hopefully everyone now days is backing up their data since we live in such a digital world). The point being is that prevention is much better than reaction after the fact. Yes our scanner is pretty good at finding and removing stuff but again - stopping it from getting on the computer in the first place is much more prudent. We have users that purchased the program back in 2008 that due to the lifetime license are still able to update and use the latest version of the program with no additional cost so for me I think that's a great value for the price.
