Manually install SATA drivers in XP partition, already installed?

BIOS setting: SATA AhcI
partition 1: xp
partition 2: 7
both boot,. but I want to use virtualbox to boot xp within 7
both are installed with SATA Ahci drivers, but the XP drivers do not work within Virtualbox (presuambly because the SATA chips are a bit different than what virtualbox emulates.
XP boots directly, but crashes on startup within virtualbox

I know I need this driver, but
A) it refuses to install because when booted my chipset is different
b) I cannot figure out how to extract the files
c) I don't know how to manually install them

help?

thanks, but that's from a new installation.

I need to add the drivers into my current installation, and a reinstall is not feasible.

I can boot directly into the OS fine, so I can install the drivers from there.

the installer recognizes that the chipset is different than what it's made for and quits, but those drivers are needed to boot from virtualbox.

therein lies the problem.

How do I manually install the drivers? Or trick the installer?

You'll need to run the SATA controller driver .exe taking note of were it unzips the drivers to.

Then browse for the .ini files and place them in the System32>Driverstore folder.

This is where Win7 will look for device drivers to install.
