Hello,

It's a new month and Microsoft released new updates  .
My question is same as on February, which updates are bad with upgrade on W10 or secret telemetry?
There is a list:
KB3118401
KB3121255
KB3138612
KB3138910
KB3138962
KB3139398
KB3139852
KB3139914
KB3139940
KB3140410
KB3140735

+ I know now that KB3139929 has got a secret blue banner to IE11.

Thank you in advance.

My list has at least twice as many items as yours.

I won't bother to post it because I'm not positive it's complete or highly accurate.

Generally, I think the idea of trying to keep up with this issue by tracking the KBs is a losing proposition over the long haul---even though I'm trying to do it. It's just not plausible long-term---KBs can be renamed, MS can decide not to fully describe them, hide update A inside update B, make update C unremoveable, etc, etc.

Overall, I think a better idea might include these options:

Use an application such as GWX control panel.

Use registry edits.

Forgetting about Windows Updates entirely and see if the world does in fact end.

Extract yourself from the entire morass by either getting on the Windows 10 bandwagon or getting off the Microsoft bandwagon via an alternative operating system---either as a dual boot, a virtual machine, or completely cutting the cord and having no traces of Windows at all.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I wouldn't worry too much about the ie11 update
If nothing else change the home page and what opens to the new tabs and never visit a M$ website :)
Most people use it at last resort or only to download another browser

Otherwise I have it on 3 machines and no banners/ popups.....

My do not install list is pretty short

KB3139398 is bad and breaks mission critical things like USB barcode scanners such as the DS3578. I foresee this update causing havoc at airports, or any other place that relies on USB devices for personnel authentication.

Good find!

Do you think that "internal upgrade" is for upgrading to Win10 or just updating Win7 WU to the never version of Win7 WU?

Not sure but for decades MS has held to consistant terminology where:
  • UPDATE is a patch of code released to address certain issues or to activate specific functionalities. (The need to release an update stems from the fact that there are certain problems that are not apparent before the product is released.)
  • UPGRADE is the act of replacing a product with a newer, and often more superior, version or similar product.
(Therefore, an update modifies a current product while an upgrade totally replaces it.)

If that still holds, anything that states "upgrade" is suspect to me.

Regards,
GEWB

Good points. I agree that it's suspect. Plus, when you add in the context of Microsoft pushing upgrades to Windows 10 in very questionable ways, it makes it even more suspect.

It's challenging, because I have a system with Windows Update issues, so I would like to update it to the latest Windows Update. On the other hand, based on their actions, I don't feel like I can trust Microsoft to keep Windows 10 in their pants where it belongs.
