Hi Laura -

A clue is offered in the pictures in your Devices and Printers control panel which are rudimentary because there has not yet been enabled Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware so during printer install it will connect to Windows Update to seek the driver if it isn't in the driver store. Here's how:
To have Windows automatically download recommended drivers and icons
You can check Windows Update at any time to see if it found new drivers and icons for your hardware, especially if you recently installed a new device. If you want to have Windows Update automatically check for the latest drivers and icons, here's how:Open Devices and Printers by clicking the Start button

, and then, on the Start menu, clicking Devices and Printers.
  1. Right-click the name of your computer, and then click Device installation settings.
  2. Click Yes, do this automatically (recommended), and then click Save changes.

If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
If Yes is already selected, click Cancel to close the dialog box.
If you let Windows automatically download drivers and information about your devices, your hardware is more likely to work properly.

To try to salvage the current install, in Devices and Printers I'd next right click on the partially installed USB device (likely the printer, since the Fax segment appears to have installed correctly) then run the Troubleshooter which can actually fix things in Win7.

If that fails I would uninstall the Brother Software in Control Panel>Programs & Features, go to the Brother webpage for your model here and download only the Printer drivers and not the full software package. Then plug in the printer, let Win7 detect and attempt to install it - providing drivers if requested, but first letting it go to Windows Updates if requested to get a driver Win7 may prefer.
