Yes, pea size would be to big, perhaps I should have said BB. At any rate the spread statement still works. The other method that works well with Intel processors is the vertical line method.

You don't want to use a Kleenex, that will leave crap all over the CPU. You need to clean ALL the old thermal paste off (kleenex IS fine for that). Then use a material (microfiber cloth) to GENTLY rub 95%+ isopropyl alcohol to clean off the last bit. Once it dries, place a thin dot, line, X on the center of the CPU, and gently place the (hopefully NONE stock) cooler back in place.

As thick as he applied the paste the alcohol will definitely be a plus.

Well, im going to definitely take the how to remove the thermal paste advice as I just received a Corsair H70 and ill be installing it tomorrow hope that will lower my temps.

Just to add a little. I have read a lot about the 800D and if was my tower it would have at least 4 extra fans, 120 or 140. This should help after you take care of the CPU heat problem. When you install a H50 or H70 the recommend method is to have the fans for the radiator blowing from outside to the inside of the case. There for pushing hot radiator air into the case. I would try them both ways and watch CPU temps. IMHO extra fans will be needed to remove the hot air. If memory is correct the 800D case has the option of installing 3 fans on the top to remove hot air and 1 in the bottom to draw in cooler air. This case is great for all kinds of water cooling but needs extra fans for good air cooling. If you want to cool the GPU they make many after market air coolers for GPU's. With that case you should have plenty of room.

I personally prefer to use a small dab slightly larger than a BB and use a credit card to evenly spread it over the CPU. You should just be able to almost see through the paste. After all your only trying to fill in any imperfections in the top of the CPU such as slight concave or convect heat shield as well as any scratches or dips in the corners. Which I found to be the case more than not when polishing CPU's with 500- 1000 grit wet and dry paper on a piece of glass.

I don't recommend you trying this unless your qualified and know not to use very much water if any at all.
This will show high and low spots and also give you a better idea how much paste to use.

I also think that the stock coolers that have paste already applied or a patch have entirely too much on them.
Your only trying to make sure you have as much full contact between the cooler and the CPU anything more is to much.

The higher the thermal conductance of the compound, the more leeway you have with thickness, IIRC. I am a fan of the credit card spreading method as well, though I use my drivers license lol.
