Max. number of serial ports in Windows 7

We are trying to use a computer with windows 7 to control some devices with serial ports. However, we are wondering how many serial ports can Windows 7 support? What is the restriction for using the maximum number of serial ports? Is there any other restricction regarding hardware?

How many serial ports can Windows 7 support? I am not sure of the number, but you can create any number of virtual serial ports using software from the following site;
