Hey all,

I felt adventurous and bought MBAM Pro Lifetime 1-PC license from an E-Bay seller. The ID and key came with e-mail within minutes.

(Warning: ebay is NOT a trusted partner for the sale of MBAM licenses, buy from it on your own risk)

I activated my MBAM installation, no issues whatsoever. However, there is no way of telling whether it is lifetime or subscription.

In an effort to find the valid licensing, and reading through lots of similar threads I came across this thread: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/151254-which-license-is-which/?hl=%2Bcheck+%2Blifetime#entry844930. There is a program posted that extracts data about MBAM and creates a text file. You can then search for "expiration" and find the relevant data.

By the time of writing I received a reply from a mod that it is indeed lifetime. However, if a couple of you with lifetime or subscription users copy paste that section we may see how it looks for others. (I guess I am being paranoid :D)

Thank you all for your time and trouble

Edit: Alright, the other day I received the reply of MBAM support. We had a few emails sent. He advised me to google the key that was sent to me and I did. Omg, it was a cracked key  I immediately opened a dispute, and got a full refund yesterday. Still waiting for the money to register on my credit card (checking local forums it may take up to a week).

Also got 2 keys from another seller in a forums and those are good (for now). I ask for it, right? ;)

Yeah, mine is a lifetime that I was curious how to tell as well and got the same output,

Code:

I figure 20 years is a lifetime when you consider what it is.

Hey Derekimo, thanks for replying.

You should see the number of threads with this particular problem and no real solution. They say ask this ask that, no one being sure. I am glad I found about this program.

Hopefully, more will use it.

I got an answer in my thread over there, that's how I found out about that tool earlier this month.

It is good to know though.

Below is what it says for mine. The only payment I've ever made to Malwarebytes was about 3 years ago when I bought "Pro", which was a lifetime license. I'm still using that same license key, but as you can see below, it's now referred to as "Premium". I running the latest version of it.

Hi:

A bit of clarification...

First, as pointed out, CURRENTLY, one can not determine from the MBAM Consumer GUI whether a license is lifetime or subscription (or the expiration date for the subscription version).
Refinements to that aspect of the GUI will be forthcoming in a future program version.
(This functionality was not needed for the many years that consumer licenses were "lifetime", with no expiration.)

However, one can run the mbam-check tool, whose log will display the license "expiration date", as already pointed out.
The license information also should be in the confirmation email sent from the seller at the time of the transaction.

Having said all that, ebay is NOT a trusted partner for the sale of MBAM licenses, as explained here: Can I buy Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from eBay?
There have been problems with stolen/pirated/cracked/blacklisted licenses sold at ebay. So, "buyer beware". This is especially so for a price that seems "too good to be true".

Aside from the Malwarebytes store, there are other, reputable, trusted partners who sell MBAM licenses, such as Amazon (not the marketplace) and Newegg. However, their remaining stock of lifetime licenses may be exhausted by now, as it has been more than a year since licenses were changed to subscription-based.

The bottom line is that one should only purchase a license for MBAM from the Malwarebytes online store or from a trusted partner, NOT from ebay.
If you run into a problem with a license purchased on ebay, MBAM Customer Support *may* (or may not) be able to sort it out for you.

Hope this helps.

1-PC "lifetime" consumer licenses for MBAM Pro purchased BEFORE March 2014 (and certain identical licenses sold after that date via a promotion or trusted reseller) were automatically migrated to an identical, 1-PC "lifetime" consumer license for MBAM Premium, when version 2.x was released.
The license can be activated on only 1 PC at a time, but can be transferred to a different PC.
There is no expiration or renewal.

Most new licenses for consumer use sold after March 2014 are 3-PC, subscription licenses. These can be activated on up to 3 PCs in the same household at one time & can be transferred to a different PC in the same household. The subscription must be renewed annually.

Several trusted partners have been selling out their remaining stock of the 1-PC lifetime licenses since March 2014. But the buyer should beware of ebay and other sites offering lifetime licenses, especially for a low price.

The bottom line:

Once a 1-PC lifetime license, always a 1-PC lifetime license (assuming the license is a legitimate license from a reputable source).
The change from Pro to Premium is/was a semantic change with version 2.x, but doesn't relate directly to the type of license.

More info here: What does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0 mean for me?

Hope this helps,
