Sorry I missed this post. What are you using to split the MKVs? DivX, Haali, ... (Note: Haali is my preferred as it is supports x64)

Installing a bunch of different codecs really screw you up especially when you're trying to figure out what you just did and trace back the changes. Keep it simple, remove all of the crap, and install the main ones.

What I find extremely easy to do is to download the free version of BSplayer and install it, it'll check your system for any uninstalled codec and download and install it for you. All you do now is go into mediabrowser and you'll see your videos. HTH.

well, the problem is getting a codec that works well with windows media center, namely subtitles

either they are on and i cant get them to turn off, or they are off and i cant understand whats going on

like watching kill bill... the movie is mostly in english, but subtitles are needed for a good portion of the movie. cant they come on when they are needed?

I just realized that you're using x64. 2 weeks ago my friend tried to setup his x64 system with no luck using. He did a dual boot with x32 and problem solved.

I say, if you just want media experience, stick with x32 you'll gain nothing going x64 unless you're gaming or do other crazy apps. I installed x64 on my pc for two weeks before I formatted the drive and stuck an x32 in.

You're just creating more headache for something that's already beta.

Not to get off-topic but I disagree. Both VMC and MC7 x64 will be more stable once setup properly.

All my systems have been x64 since Vista RTM release. For the first 5-6 months from RTM there was lack of x64 drivers and no Matroska splitter but hasn't been the case for a long time. With W7 there really is no reason to not go x64 if your processor supports it. For the first time there is a native x64 Haali's splitter and with that CoreAVC will follow soon.

By the way, you don't need to install ffdshow tryouts anymore... you can just install a mkv splitter and maybe a reg for media center to see the mkvs and it works...

Very true but I like the extra options ffdshow gives for audio equalizing and subtitle support.

There is a story behind my avatar (and the one @ The Chrome OS Forums), I'll post it some day.

This is pretty ironic, I see exactly what you went through. This afternoon, came home from work, tried to watch the SAME movie i didn't finish last night and it wouldn't locate it. Going directly to the file and playing it with the default player (BSPlayer) with no luck! Pretty weird eh? I'll mess with it a little, let me know if you figure something out.
