Media center service turns off, firewall exc. erases!!!

Hello, I am trying to get my XBox 360 to find my PC, or get my Windows Media Center PC to find my 360 as an extender.

For some reason every time Media Center searches(put in the 8 digit code on the PC) I get:

"Media Center Extender Setup failed as the Extender was detected on the network but the UPnP search for the Extender failed (timed out after 20000ms)."

in the event log.

It shuts off my "Media Player Extender" service(stops it and changes it to "disabled"), and unchecks the Windows Firewall box allowing Media Center Extenders through my home network.

I've tried disabling my router's firewall (Linksys WRT54GS) and Windows Firewall, then restarting the Media Center Service and still get the same message and results.

I've enabled uPnP, and disabled "filter multicast". I've tried messing with the Xbox's IP settings, but that wouldn't cause my PC to shut off the services.

I've done just about everything I can find on the internet to fix it and nothing has worked so far, have only seen a couple of threads talking about the service shutting off by itself.

I'm about to the point where I'm going to re-install Windows 7, but I haven't had it for very long at all so I doubt a "fresh" copy will make any difference.

As your statement did not note that you were discussing your router, I thought I would point that out. Mind reading is in another forum

What Anti-virus are you running?

In XPMCE and Win7RC1 MC I could not connect at all until I completely uninstalled NOD32. No issues since.

Here is a list from Microsoft of Windows 7 consumer security software providers...
"Microsoft is actively working with the partners listed on this page and additional security independent software vendors (ISVs) to provide security software solutions tested on Windows 7."

Some are free and highly rated such as AVG Free, avast!, and Microsoft Security Essentials. Any of these properly installed and updated products combined with safe browsing habits can and will keep your PC clean.

Often, I have seen where an individual will have both the Microsoft Firewall on and another firewall installed and on or multiple AV products installed, which in not recommended as it can cause conflicts...Use the Action Center Flag in the tray to review security in Windows 7. Also make sure if you ever change security vendors to always ensure the last one used has actually been fully uninstalled before installing another. Some of the most poorly performing PC's I have seen had multiple security products running.

To check for viruses or spyware on a PC that seems to be having issues, I use MalwareBytes in safe mode. I have yet to find an infected Windows 7 PC, however. It did find one spyware item in one of the pre-release versions with a very low warning.

Multicast Filtering needs to be enabled!

Why would you disable Multicast Filtering?

Anyway, it is obviously a network issue of some kind.
Is Network Discovery on in your Network and Sharing Center?
Have you checked your services and made sure that SSDP and UPnP are running? Restarted them?

Try running windows update, focus on the optionals and see if there is an update for your network adapter.
