New to the site and one post has already helped me with a driver issue, so i thought i would ask for help with the following

Can anyone help me with this, just installed windows 7 on my media pc after a few network issues i have got it kind of going.. and with a few tips got it to look alittle more like XP.. (i just like it each to there own)... the question is why is the MC so sluggish XP Version used to fly through the menus and stuff.. this takes ages to view files and to start to play films/music.. 80% of the fils are on the main pc but even files on the actual pc itself are slow to get going... any ideas.. ???

Welcome to windows 7 forums! :D
Your computer is so awesome, I cannot imagine what the problem is lol.
Media center never really gave me any problems, maybe the problem you have is the extra graphics and transitions in the program?
There is an optimization tool in the utility

I would have thought it would be fast also, or at least normal.. but no it like stutters on things if i scroll through movies to music there is a slight delay, not all the times but most of the time.. if i pick movies it can take about 30-40 seconds to see them all and same with the music... just wondered if i have something turned on in the MC software that does not need to be... since this is a fresh install and all that..

is there any tweaks out to speed it up.. or one to keep the HDD switched on instead of keep powering it up everytime i might need to us it??

cheers

Sorry mate, I really cannot think of any miraculous solution. I will says this: media center loads your library items each time you click on music or videos. This will cause a slight delay as you click on music or video. My basic suggestions are to defrag your files (since this is fresh install, i cant imagine so much fragmentation) and organize your music logically.

In addition, you probably heard of superfetch. Superfetch caches the files you require over time. I've seen it alot where the computer gets much much faster after several reboots and after loading the files several times. Thus, as you use Media center more, the files media center caches and the dlls it uses will be more rapidly accessed.
Allow superfetch to do its job after a week. Usually, after a week, you would see a noticeable amount of performance gain.
Good luck!
