Media player and/or music/foldr/explorer problem

Hi all
got problem with wmp12.
all started when i could not see details(album,title,ect...) of the songs in their default music folder library (but saw them in wmp) as in the first photo(upper).
So what i tried to fix\do:
-How to Rebuild Windows Media Player Corrupted Libraries tutorial
-install\uninstall wmp
-system restore
-delete my music and public music folders
-all music folders layout were customize as "music"
- sfc scan show no violation
None helped and got worse...
after trying rebuild the libraries i got the look as in photo 2(middle) . what ever i tried i could not get back the normal look of wmp with songs inside . never the less i could see it normally when stream for another computer to mine on my network as you see in photo 3(lower) so that's why i'm not sure it's wmp fault.
my music libraries folders are and were without changes as in photo 4(lowest) .
songs are not missing from wmp or libraries, only their details and the way they show are the issue .
i do not have a clue how to fix it -i'm not sure if the fault is the wmp or libraries folder or explorer( from the beginning i could not see songs details inside their folder as in photo 1 )
-Media Player settings and library Troubleshooting results, show problem in both but can not fix it.
help to fix the issue will be appreciated!

What if you edit the files in the explorer and replace the missing infos on those three files. Also in WMP have you try to right click each file and search for update?

files can not be edited in explorer.
right click in wmp -find\update album info. will apply to album art only .

If you look at the bottom of the Explorer you can see when you are on the file some infos (name, author, album, artist album, year...) that can be edited by clicking on it, then saved.

If you have downloaded free music the files have (often) been ripped using some sort of rubbish iTunes tool.
Often those files can't be edited in Windows Explorer.

I use a utility called "ID3Kill" to obliterate the Apple rubbish.
I can then re-enter the necessary details.

unfortunately explorer will not let me keep the changes, even after taking ownership...(screenshot) .

do you think the viewing/showing problem is due to explorer?
well, its related to library music folder as well i guess- but reset
folder view also did not help...

i looked for error-0x80004005
'Error 0x80004005: Unspecified Error', in Windows 7, while - Microsoft Community
but my problem is not fully renaming folders in windows

-i made new music library inside libraries folder- unfortunately the folder behavior was the same as above.

IIRC, I did have a problem like this with one album.

I asked my friend if he could do anything with them (mp3 files) on his Arch Linux machine.
He was able to purge the metadata using some Linux tool.

I don't know what he did and the fix probably isn't available in Windows.

If it is a NTFS permission problem, you could try this:

• Copy a music file to a storage device that has been formatted using FAT (e.g. Flash stick)
• Use ID3Kill to try to delete the metadata

I also recall having an issue which was caused by the album art.
As I use Winamp for music, I was able to use it to save a copy of the album cover and then I deleted it from all of the tracks.
I was then able to use ID3Kill to purge the metadata.

i think the problem is in music folders\libraries or windows explorer .
i took mp3 file from my pc to other windows 7 pc and all details shown fine in wmp and music folder,
however when did vice versa -it did not.
any other thought?

Have you tried running sfc?

Open the Command Prompt (Use the "Run as administrator" option in the context menu).
Type:

sfc /scannow

You could also try this:

• Copy a file to the other W7 PC
• Try editing the file's metadata on the other W7 PC:
  • Delete a line of info (e.g track title)
  • Save the change
  • Re-edit the file and replace the deleted data
  • Save the change
• Copy the edited file back to your PC
• Try editing the metadata of that file on your PC

My bad.
Somehow I missed that.

You could try copying "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" from the working PC to your PC.
I don't have much confidence that will fix your issue though.

I assume that you don't have a backup image?
Not that it helps now, but for future reference:

Once you have reinstalled Windows and gotten the updates, but before you install any programs, you should create a backup HDD image.

Note:
If you don't like Windows Backup, you may need to install something like Macrium Reflect first (or create a Macrium WinPE CD/USB stick).

IMO, you should create another image after you have installed your programs, before you start surfing the Internet.

Restoring a backup image on your PC (re-imaging) takes a lot less time than reinstalling everything.

I prefer to use Macrium Reflect.

This is starting to remind me of an issue I had with W7 Calculator.

The display was broken in 3 out of the 4 modes.
Nothing I tried to fix the problem worked, including SFC and copying a new copy of the exe to my PC.
Worse, the issue occurred ~6 months before I noticed it, so I didn't have a backup image pre-dating the problem.

I was eventually forced to reinstall W7, because the Network Manager refused to remember static IP addresses.


Personally if it was my PC, I'd be tempted to nuke it (format the HDD), reinstall W7 and create some backup images.

Don't nuke it yet.
I'll ask some other members have a look at this thread.

Just a thought have you tried an undelete / recovery software yet? Have a read of this How to Recover a Deleted File: The Ultimate Guide I have used Recuva in the past and it is quite useful and there are more utilities that can do that too.


I can't remember seeing if a system restore was mentioned - worth a try and what are you going to lose??

Ok another two cents worth if you are trying to recover lost music try this / these -nothing to to lose

BOOTABLE UBUNTU
Make a bootable Ubuntu disk Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu
Set the BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY not INSTALL
When it is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in the pic .
Open the drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy / paste the material you want to an external source or other installed drive doing this.
I am not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.

Or there is this Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS I prefer Ubuntu a tad easier to set up but this does the same thing

unfortunately it did not help.
i decided to leave the situation as it is for now, since i guess only repair install will fix the fault.

Never mind mate still it is useful tool to have in your kit.

Now funny this should come up now because I did some updates and adding Music to the library has thrown one of my machines into a right mess.
