Media player classic question...

I just downloaded this and I guess its a newer version from what I had in XP... Whenever you pause/play/use the mouse to skip to a certain part of a video, theres a blue box that pops up that says "play" or "pause" or whatever you just did and it blocks parts of the video for a few seconds...this is pretty stupid. Is there a way to disable this? I couldn't find the option to do so...

Seeing as Media Player Classic is not part of Windows 7, you will have a very difficult time changing options that are not supported by the program itself.

First, I would recommend downloading and using the latest RC version of MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema). Even though they warn you they are experimental, they are perfectly stable, ime. These versions are constantly under development, incorporate the latest improvements, and I believe you will have an overall better experience with them. This is my personal favorite player (love the simple and intuitive user interface) although it frequently takes some tweaking and the use of something like Shark007's win7 codecs to get the best from it.

Second, with MPC-HC, at least, there is a way to turn off the display you don't like. Open MPC-HC, hit the O key (brings up the options menu) and on the first screen which appears which is the "Player" tab, uncheck the box for "show controls in fullscreen." That should disable the display you don't like.

(Btw, you can also modify it to how many seconds you want it displayed rather than disable it entirely.)

I tried what you suggested, but that wasn't it. I have the home cinema downloaded, will have to check what version I have though... The thing I'm talking about is a blue box that appears after you do one of the things I mentioned above: pause/play/skip to another part of the move... It appears in the upper left corner of the video kinda like a status message. When you pause the video, it'll say in a blue box "pause" which is a pretty stupid "captain obvious" pop up message...

Try this instead: Go back to the options menu, go to the "miscellaneous tab" (last tab on the list on the left), uncheck the box on the right, "show OSD," hit OK, exit the player and restart it and test. Now, hopefully, it should be gone.

I can understand that you might not like those status displays. I went back and forth myself with whether to keep them on or try to turn them off. In the end I decided to keep them activated mainly because I like that it shows you what percentage of volume you're at whenever one adjusts the volume.

Cheers. I like how the option is kind of hidden away in Misc, rather than easily accessible in View. Is it just me, or is that an annoyance to everyone? The OSD I mean.
