Memory Management Error

So friend did something to his computer which has Windows8, it wouldn't boot so he formatted that particular partition and doesn't have any OS cd's.

In comes me. I have Windows7 Professional 64bit disk like so. Image. (Included the image because the 'BackUp Disc' is confusing me.)
I proceed to install.
I install all drivers I can find using Slimdrivers.

I have not installed any Windows Update files. Usually when I try it will BSOD with Memory Management Error.

Most of the computer specs are in my Sevenforums profile.

I hear that Mem Manag Err can be caused by bad ram. I'm no expert but I do know I haven't seen the computer crash before I installed the drivers. Which leads me to believe it's not faulty RAM. But the tests will tell...

Please help. Attached is the SF Diagnostic Tool .zip file.

There is no data on this computer I care about. So if you want to lead me through a Clean Install that would be fine.

Alien first up what version of Windows are you using - it is retail I am assuming? Even so if you have that on another machine you will not be able to use it on your friends one.

If you are getting memory problems the I suggest you reseat the RAM sticks and other drives etc if that does not fix anything them do a memtest - make a bootable disk - set the boot to optical and run the memtest. It takes a fair time to do and must run at least 8 passes unless the the errors start up straight away.

If it checks out then I would suggest you get the friends drive wiped and formatted get an OEM of 7 and then install it.

Your friend could have left the 8 in place mate and just used on of the many apps that let you start up like 7:rolleyes:

Drivers can easily cause the memory management error.

Do you need the Asrock App Charger, RAMDisk etc. and Cfosspeed internet accelerator drivers?

Better to just download the drivers from the device manufacturer's site rather than using third party software.

I assume its retail, but am not exactly sure; which is why I included that picture.
Ah I didn't realize the license was for only 1 computer. A lot of software lets you install it on 2 or 3 computers.
Is that was has been causing the Windows update to crash?

I doubt it. I just went here and downloaded what I could.

My first go around I didn't install these and was getting the same crash.
Shall I uninstall them?

Well let me explain so you know a retail version can be used more than once up to a limit but only on one machine at a time. An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version is used by the large companies and anyone who builds their own computer . In this instance the OEM is tied to that particular motherboard and it cannot be transferred to another machine.

If you refurbish the machine it with say a new hard drive RAM etc etc then you can reinstall that OEM but only if the motherboard has not been changed.

Of course given the right circumstances say if for example the machine totally crashed and you had to start from scratch including the motherboard then Microsoft are a phone call away and generally speaking are very good at letting you use the OEM again on a different motherboard / complete rebuild. I have done this this on a few occasions myself.

Look on the box the disk came in it should state quite clearly if it is a retail or an OEM. The boxes from what I have seen are quite different in that the retail is quite heavy case while the OEM disks usually come in quite flimsy polyurethane cases. I am sorry mate but I do not know how to check for retail or OEM unless it is written on the box or disk.

PS I did notice too that the disk is an older one in that it doesn't have SP1 marked on it.

It was mailed in a sleeve, I do not see any writing indicating what it is.
I bought this CD online, it did not come with the machine. So I'm certain this is not an OEM disc.

The BSOD usually happens when I'm trying to do something Windows related. Such as Windows Update.

Sounds very suspicious to me Alien I would hazard a guess that like my brother recently you have been sold an ex company DVD. Personally I do not buy any software on line unless I know where it is coming from. I would be very interested in knowing how much this DVD was as I said it is old because of the lack of SP1 on it.

Now unless you want Professional for a specific reason the Home Premium is what I choose and to be honest I have had Professional on the laptop and I can't tell the difference.

If I was your friend I would be cutting my losses and buying an OEM as they are reasonably priced see here
http://www.newegg.com/Operating-Systems/SubCategory/ID-368 but make sure first you are getting the right bit version 64 or 32. If the machine had 8 on it then I am guessing it is fairly new and would be 64bit capable.
