Memory problems......

Hi all,
I've built my set-up as per my spec in my profile.
Intel core i7, Gigabyte motherboard.
I'm having memory problems.
I bought 8 gig of DDR3 PC1333 but the computer gives various beeps and won't start at all with any combination other than one, 2 gig module in.
It only runs with 2 gig of RAM .
Thinking it must be cheap DDR3 ( it was, £80 the lot ) I bought a Corsair XMS3 6 gig matched kit " recommended for Intel Core i7 Processors "
The computer fans start up for a bit then switch off and then back on ad infinitum, not even a beep.
It does the same with any configuration of the 3 modules, or any one on its own.
So I'm back to one of the original cheap 2 gig DDR3 modules.
What am I doing wrong ?

Is there an OS on it? also leave only 2 gigs in and see if you can get into BIOS. look for a max memory and if you have it make sure its unchecked. try it again

Operating system is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit.
The only thing that works is the original 2 gig module, none of the Corsair memory works in any configuration.

That problem usually relates to memory voltage not being set correctly in bios, I belive that 1.65 is max for that type of Ram.

Also try the Corsair forum for some suggestions on memory settings.

try one module of corsair ram(gb) in any slot in mbo, also check latency, volatge, frequency it will be best if you can set it manually(check specification of corsair ram and than set that values in bios)

Pages 42 -46 have to do with your ram settings in your bios definitely read these pages. As to why it will only post with the 1 stick I would refer to the MB specs and find out what ram it is compatible with. their is a note in the specs about going to memory support list for the latest memory support list. Well I have the Gigabyte manual and having tried to digest all the above I'm none the wiser.
The DRAM voltage is 1.52 volts which should be OK.
I've no idea what to do next.

The Gigabyte manual does not contain the information you need. The memory manufacture would have the info for your memory, not Gigabyte. I doubt that 1.52 Vdimm is ok or your system would be running as it should which it isn't. The fact that two other posters repeated the same info as me should tell you something.

The DRAM voltage is something you can't just guess at so unless your memory manufacture says to put the voltage at 1.52 it won't be correct. The memory timings also need to be set up manually as the Auto settings are often incorrect. I'm not sure which Corsair memory you have or I would look it up myself. Still it's up to you to put the info into your bios.

If you want to be wiser look up the specs for your memory and insert those numbers into your bios as I, and a few others have already suggested. You can't assume anything is correct in bios.

And honestly the information I gave to you is solid, what you do with that information is up to you. In any event when you recieve good information you should rep the person providing the information for you regardless of your lack of understanding of the information provided. :sarc:

I can say from experience that Corsair memory and Gigabyte mobos don't necessarily play well together. Some get them to POST, whereas others (myself included) cannot. I switched to Mushkin on my last build as per Gigabyte's recommendation.

You may want to head on over to Gigabyte's support forum, which is located at GIGABYTE - TweakTown Forums to address your issues. A cursory glance at the results of a search I did reveals that you're not the only one who can't get your particular mobo to POST with Corsair DIMMs.
