So i have 32x Win7 I also have 8GB of memory.

My question is how much memory can this architecture actually see? its 32bit, so shouldn't it only see a max of 4? in the my computer properties, it tells me i have 8, but a bunch of programs tell me i have the 3.25.

Do i need to move to 64x? and what happens with the drivers for my custom built pc? will i be able to find them? (most of my disks wont install 32 bit drivers on win7 beta) i cant really do the vista driver backup with driver max, because i use XP

any help? ideas? suggestions? Thoughts? Comments? Wize cracks?

See? 8 but not 100% sure about this.
Use = depends on your system

Maximum amount of memory you can use in a 32-bit environment is 4GB but because several hardware parts have memory on them the amount of memory available to programs to work with is lower.
For example if you have a graphics card with 512MB of ram on it the max you can use drops to 3.5GB.

Vista SP1 show you the amount of physical installed RAM.
That is different to the amount of RAM it can address and you can use.

By the way on a x86 (and not 86x ;) ), you can only adress 4GB minus few hundred MB for hardware/driver reservation. So your system allow you something like 3.2GB or RAM.

Then having 8GB on a 32bit system is totally useless! You must have a x64 (64bit) version wich will allow you using all the RAM you have.

If your hardware is not to old you will find driver ;)

Hi TheTeZ,

With Windows, a 32-bit system can only address a maximum of 4GB of memory. However, this figure also includes reserved addresses for I/O devices and system hardware, so the actual amount of addressable RAM is much lower, typically 3.0 - 3.5 GB. I think that Server versions are different, and I cannot vouch for non-MS OSes.

I think that Server versions are different, and I cannot vouch for non-MS OSes.

Server edition (not all..) avec Unix/Linux can use PAE for adressing more than 4GB. Windows can do it too, but some driver (video card for ex.) may be buggy with PAE enable. So the dev. of Windows have locked down PAE with XP SP2

Hi TheTeZ,

Yes, you should be able to run 64-bit on your system, providing that you can get suitable drivers. You will, of course, have to clean-install as it is not possible to upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit directly (or vice-versa).

Thanks Guys,
The switch to 64x was fairly simple. only problems were finding x64 drivers for the netgear wireless usb adapter, but ive got them, and everything works fine. only problem, i think its with the release i am using (7057) is dual screen support. Its funky... and hard to get working. and a little more flawd than the early 7000 build.

once again thanks guys, im just about to beat this game

You know, its actually the moisture from your breath that allows the carts contacts to catch, not the blowing off of dust.
