Memory usage issue

i do not understand why i have such a high usage for memory when im running next to nothing i just bought this laptop

The memory usage is perfectly normal, no need to worry about that
Windows7 x64 uses 900MB-2.0Gb when idle

Memory usage is fine. I guess that you are using lap top ?
Anyway you can click on show processes from all users,to check if there is any nessesary process that is working.

First, it must be said that task manager is not an entirely accurate method to track memory, used or otherwise. In this case, opening resmon to the memory tab should be sufficient to get a better picture of used memory that is actually currently in use, and used memory that is on the standby list to be made available for other processes should it be required. Task manager does not take this (nor many other nuances) into account when displaying memory information.

900mb-1gb W/2gb RAM installed is completely normal.

As already mentioned, Win7 may use up to 2GB at idle depending how much RAM you have.
