I just upgraded my keyboard to a 'Merc Stealth' by Steelseries.

As normal, I downloaded the latest software from their site only to discover that I can't really do anything with it. Any attempt to assign new actions to keys or hot keys via the software fails. When you click the 'browse' button to search for your new action/program, nothing happens, no new windows open up.

I have submitted a ticket to 'Steelseries' but was wondering if any Win7 users were also using this keyboard on here.

Use whatver uninstall method the software might provide, or control panel.

Following that, make sure the driver is uninstalled in Device Manager/Merc Keyboard/Uninstall.

Boot.

Right click the setup file for Compatibility. I have no idea how the driver installs. It may be a part of the software install, but it would be nice if the driver extracts to a folder so that it could be installed in compat mode for sure.

Well I uninstalled the software using revouninstaller, cleaned up all traces and registry entries. Re-installed it using compatibility mode, it suggested WinXP SP2 but after installation there are no changes, the behavior is still the same. I believe the driver is bundled in the software installer.

I did not reboot after the uninstall, only after re-installing.

Well, that was the limit of my usefulness.

My office of employment! ;)

Thanks anyway for the help and quick reply. We'll see what 'steelseries' has to say about this. Googling the issue results in a thread elsewhere with someone experiencing the same issue.

I worked with the Ashburn and Reston facilities for a few months on the BlackBerry server upgrade a few years back. Just before Vista rolled out.

That's in Virginia no?

Yes.

At another forum, where I have been a member for many years, I use the pic of the Exchange Server admin as my user pic. We're tight and he thinks it's funny. Considering the radical difference in our appearance and heritage. He's a hardcore gamer.

I had problems with my Stealth when I was running Win7 for a while a few months ago. I spoke with someone at SteelSeries, and was told that they have Win7 specific drivers ready that do work, but they will not release them until Win7 is retail.

Jerks. =)

Merc Stealth issues

I have the identical problem you're having, but on my machine with Windows Vista 32-bit. And it worked FINE until I installed my new video card and fired up my machine for the first time in about 5 months. I updated Vista and now the Merc Stealth won't accept any changes to profiles. And most of the time there are no profiles listed in the tree. The "MOD" screen is just empty. Create new mod button does nothing. The system tray icon just reads "no device" as if the keyboard isn't plugged in. The keyboard will lose backlighting, (I'm assuming losing power?) and then comes back on and just repeats the keystroke that was being pressed when it shorted out. I've also upgraded my power supply with the new video card, and still no change in the keyboard (was desperately hoping not enough power to run the full keyboard). I'd LOVE to know if you found a solution. I've read other boards and have seen people suggesting older software instead of the new stuff from SteelSeries.com has worked for them, but I cannot find older versions. SteelSeries has been the EPITOME of unhelpful. In 10 days their only response has been instructions on uninstalling and reinstalling. Which, by the way, I noted as having BEEN DONE in my initial ticket. Thoroughly displeased with their customer service and support.
