Merging partions back together.

i have no luck with this i have my 1 terabyte drive split into 3 partions i want to merge them back together. i have tried computer management partion magic nothing will work or the options arent there or highlighted i really need to fix this. thank you all.

What is on those 3 partitions? Windows and system on 1, and data on the other 2??

How big is each partition? How much occupied space on each partition?

Any unallocated (unpartitioned) space?

You can't willy nilly "merge" partitions, at least not with Windows own tools.

General technique:

Open disk management and look at the partitions, left to right. C for windows is probably on the left.


Do you have access to another drive, perhaps external, or to DVD disc backup and could you put stuff there?

Of the 3 partitions, assuming windows is on the left, can you move everything in the middle partition to either C or the far right partition, at least temporarily? The idea being to empty the middle partition.

Post a screen capture of disk management if you can.

Is this correct:

On disc 0, you want to combine Z, D, and the unallocated space into a single partition?

On disc 1, you want to do nothing at all and that is where your operating system lives?

If so, what personal data do you have on Z and D? How many total gigabytes occupied on Z? How many total gigabytes occupied on D?

I would recommend you to use Acronis Disk Director suite to merge the partiton.

z 53.7 gigs being used on z and on e 58.9 and what about the 117 gigs of unallocated free space i want this to added.

Do you mean D has 58.9, rather than E? I don't see E in your picture.

Why can't you do this:

Move everything on D to Z.

Delete D in disk manager.

Expand Z in disk manager to contain all the space formerly occupied by D and the currently unallocated space of 117 gigs.

Z would then occupy the entire drive.

Any luck yet. Coming in late but I've had good luck with EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition, which is free for home users. As with ALL partition utilities, things can go wrong so make sure you backup any important data first. This would be one of the worst times for a power outage, so make sure no bad weather is about, or better yet, use a good UPS with AVR.

I doubt it.

You can't merge/expand a Primary partition with an Extended.

Partition Magic is not compatible with NT6 partitioning rules. Avoid it.

Acronis Disk Director is not comaptible with windows 7. (You might get away with using the boot disc). Avoid it.


Easeus Partition Manager Free version is OK - but it only works on 32 bit systems.
