Any idea why can't I hear audio properly from earphones/earpods?

I can hear the vocals of a song clearly, but not the background music. It sounds air-y (if you get what I mean), and has no bass at all. Is there a way to get earphones to work in a desktop?

Do you have the Speakers set for "Stereo"? Considering this system is quite old and only the Starter version if you don't have it set for stereo that may be the problem. If the speakers work OK, plug the headset into the GREEN speaker jack on the rear of the PC and see how it sounds there.
