Hello, I decided to make a post here since I'm losing my mind and I hope somebody will be able to help me.
Yesterday I've got my hands on Siberia USB soundcard, one like this:
SteelSeries - Gaming Headsets - SteelSeries Siberia USB Soundcard
I'm currently using headset made by the same company:
SteelSeries - Gaming Headsets - SteelSeries Flux In-ear Pro Headset

The problem is as follows: I've installed all drivers and connected usb card to my pc (laptop by the way) and headset to the sound card. Sound works fine, the mic shows up in recording devices but it doesn't register any sound. When I connect headset directly to my laptop mic works fine.
I've tried tampering with all possible setting but no luck, also when I connected my very old mic to the sound card it worked just fine. A little bit of irony that steelseries product doesn't work with another steelseries product.

If you have any idea what's going on please help, thank you ;)

Is the Siberia USB sound card set as the default recording device? As the PC sound card works, that says the PC sound card is set as the Default recording device.

As you are using a separate sound card, the PC's sound should be disabled in the BIOS so it does not conflict and interfere.

I could try tampering with bios but if that was the case my old mic wouldn't work either right? Thing is it does and that confuses me.

headphones themselves aren't broken too since they work when connected directly.

Generally, you want the on-board audio disabled. Windows can only have one default playback device. e.g. your PC sound card or the USB sound card. Recording, your Steel Series USB needs to be enabled in the Sound Panel/Recording section for it to work. And, if the on-board sound's Stereo Mix is set as default then the Steel Series mic may not be heard. As noted the conflicts and confusion. By only having one it eliminates conflicts from the other.

Just tried what you suggested but it didn't solve problem. I'm starting to think this is some sort of strange hardware issue since I hear strange noise and cracking when I enable [listen to the device]. Probably this sound card is just bad quality but maybe there is something else I didn't think of.

Is the Siberia USB card really better than the sound card in the PC? Do you really need it?

I got it for free so decided to try it ;) Sound quality in my pc is decent apart from very quiet noise when nothing plays but mic quality is worse, it's manageable but sometimes annoying for people I talk with (mostly due to the fact that mic picks up some static when it is connected directly to laptop). This is laptop I'm using:
MSI Global GT780
I remember trying to do something with audio drivers when I got headset but quality didn't improve much unfortunately.

That looks like a very nice gaming PC. It says Windows 8. Did you downgrade to Windows 7? And if that is the case maybe all the extra audio software, such as the THX Tru Studio was not installed?

It actually came without any OS, I installed all drivers myself from msi website. To be frank I completely forgot about THX, I'll try installing them now and see how it turns out.

nvm^, for some reason I can't install THXTruStudio PRO downloaded from official msi website, nothing happens or error "this software may not be installed properly" pops up- guess there's nothing more I can do, I'll do a fresh installation of Windows once I finish college because atm I have wayyyy too much necessary stuff :)

I had THX Tru Studio that came with one of the desktop motherboards I have. It was installed without problem, with all the other motherboard software.

There is probably something missing on your system.

The Steelseries USB Sound Card records the sound on the right channel and if your microphone is only connected to the left channel, it will not Work. it is standard to short circuit the left and right channel in the mini-Jack connector for mono microphones, but some headset manufactures do not do that.
I solved the issu by connecting the left and right channel at the mini Jack connector inside the USB soundcard.
I hope this helps you?
