Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery - Not doing much!

A couple of weeks ago my laptop decided to start displaying a red cross over the battery icon, there is also a warning message saying something along the lines of (I use a Japanese version of Windows so I am translating so might not be exactly what it says in the English version) "Due to a problem with the battery, the computer may suddenly shutdown". The battery is less than a year old and was working fine until this message suddenly appeared so I thought it may be a driver problem. On the suggestion of internet sources I uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery driver, restarted and allowed it to reinstall itself when it scanned for new hardware changes. The problem was still there though and now the driver doesn't seem to work at all, so none of the power profiles/turn off screen after X minutes type functions seem to work.

Suggestions on how I could fix one/both of the problems?

Batterys do go bad. If you feel it is still under warranty contact your manufacturer. Another option is a very long annoying process that MAY work. You need to let the battery drain down all the way to the point it is dead and will now power on at all. After that you need to plug it in and let it charge. When it is done charging Let it drain. I did this for 2 days... and it fixed my battery life until I decided to let it stay on charge over night.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any suggestions regarding the issue of the power saving functions/drivers not working since I tried removing and reinstalling them? I would be less bothered by the poor battery life (since it is plugged in most of the time anyway) if I could at least get the screen to power off after X minutes as it used to until I meddled.

Is that under power options?

Yes. So choosing between the 'Balanced' 'Power Saver' 'High Performance' etc profiles doesn't do anything anymore. The computer doesn't respond to any of the other power options in anyway. Won't turn off you I close the lid, won't power off the screen after X minutes etc.

open an elevated command prompt. and run sfc /scannow

to open an elevated command prompt type cmd into menu and right click and run that as an administrator.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
