Microsoft blames Windows 7 upgrade mess on .....

That simply sums up one basic fact. When you change platforms from the 32bit to 64bit or vice versa consider it as if you were changing OSs entirely where you would need to perform a clean install right from the start.

In 99% of the cases it does turn out to be user error especially for novices without experience in how to perform upgrades and certainly lack in performing clean installs from scratch. Mostly this is with people who always bought prebuilds with preinstalled versions of Windows or one of the other OSs.

Upgrading is the most useless feature microsoft has ever put in their windows oeses.
I never used it.

So...you've never used it but through your experience you've leard how useless it is??

I've done a clean install of 7, and an upgrade of 7. Both worked just fine. The upgrade was a hell of a lot easier, as I didn't have to go looking for any drivers. I backed up all data but was happy to see EVERYTHING EVERYTHING transfered...user settings...files...display settings, etc.

On one fast test install of the 64bit RC here I simply used the Windows Easy Transfer tool to backup and then restore the backup on the test install. During the restoration the wallpapers changed for both monitors here as set by Display Fusion at the time on the then host install.

Once the full retail version of 7 was on the next step was to create a system image which required 1.2tb if the shared folders item was checked off. Somehow the RC installation on the second drive or one of the 1tb storage must have been added in somehow to see that size! The user account only saw 5.8gb there.

This is not the first time I've seen a company blaming their own customers for something, and it will not be the last. We're the reason sales are low, after all, and we're the reason they get bad press.

The video game industry is the worst about this, though. Their actions make this look like nothing.

The distribution of media for 7 has been slow! Many that tested 7 will be receiving free copies on disk some time this month. When looking in stores on 10/22 there were hardly any to find while you could buy a new laptop with 7 preinstalled right away.

The most likely for this? The pushed up time table for 7's release is partially responsible for this seeing 7 released in October and not Q1 2010 as originally scheduled. Then you have to weigh in all of the preorder discount offers being jumped on resulting in a back log for the company manufacturering the media for MS.
