Microsoft issues emergency patch for all versions of Windows

It's all Internet Explorer's fault -- again.

Microsoft has released an emergency out-of-band patch for a "critical"-rated security vulnerability, affecting all supported versions of Windows.

The software giant said in an advisory Tuesday that users visiting a specially-crafted website can lead to remote code execution on an affected machine.

Mine just came through along with five optional updates. One of the updates was for *&^%$ Silverlight. Why on Earth can't MS get it through their thick skulls that I don't need and, thus, do not want it the blasted thing. Two of the remaining four are related to spying and Win10 upgrade prep (forget those!), one is a time zone update for DST in other countries (I'll install it if and when I travel to another country, especially after the time zone update fiascos in the past) and the remaining one addresses a memory leak (which I will download and install Saturday, along with the important update, since I am having a problem with an elusive memory leak).

Since I posted this, I have hidden the *&^%$#@! Silverlight update six times. Each time, about five minutes or so after I hide the blasted thing, I get it back! MS is really ticking me off!

You gotta love how they name exe files. I'd assume "bendover.exe" is in the planning stages.

I'm not seeing the Silverlight critter.

Yeah, I got them too. MS can go to blazes with their telemetry. Did not install those.

Windows 10 is loaded with that stuff. Now MS wants to do it to W8.1 and W7.

Anybody do any sniffing on what those updates do?

Planning stages? heck, we already have been getting it; they just gave it different names, such as Win 10.

Now the Windows update icon has disappeared. I'm going back to bed and Microsoft can go to...no, must be nice...

I installed them all. If MS want's to waste their time spying on me so be it! I'm sure they have better things to do!

I'm finding "consent.exe" 6 times all in the C:\Windows\winsxs folder along with one consent.exe.mui in the same folder. No others any place else, I hope.

I'm resisting the urge to delete them for fear of problems that may arise.

Thanks for heads up on the latest spyware updates from M$.

I see kb3078071 is mandatory to install the security update... is this a safe thing to install or it has some kind of spying tool?

My windows Update Icon is still missing although I can still bring it up if I go to Control Panel. There is something weird going on.

This article ID kb3078071 is the cumulative IE Update from the Patch Tuesday August 11, 2015. You should received aswell the article ID kb3087985 which is the emergency patch for IE dated August 18, 2015.

I've grabbed those as stand-alone installers because i couldn't access temporarily to Windows Update.

Is that all of the updates that had been recently in WU?

It was the middle of the night and I was grumpy because I was having trouble sleeping (shift lag and ADHD; deadly combo) so I didn't keep track of what I had hidden. MS has been issuing so many crap updates lately, I've quit adding to my Specialized High Intensity Training list and just check out each update as they roll in. The only ones I'm going to actually download install Saturday, assuming there are no reports of problems, are KB3087985 and KB3078667.

If Microsoft leaves a back door for spying what would make one think that Microsoft is the only one using that back door?
