I am running Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit version.
My video camera is Microsfot VX-7000.
My Lifecam software is Windows 7 64bit compatible, release 3.0

My Lifecam software installed without problems but when I double-click on the LifeCam software, I get an BLANK screen with a message that states "no camera connected".

However, when I run/use Skype (latest version 4.1.0.179), the camera works without problems, which confirms that the camera is OKAY.

I have checked Microsoft Support and found article KB933311 titled "No camera connected" error message, and the video preview is blank when you start the LifeCam software: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933311

but none of those issues effect me, nor did it solve anything.

So, what is happening? Any ideas?

Thats a possibility Tarra try to install an older version of the drivers perhaps the ones that came with the original install CD - i would try the vista version firstly, and then the XP. To get around a compatibility mismatch error with OS when it tries to install you can do the following :

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Did you try uninstalling skype to see if its causing the conflict? Or have you any other related software?

I need to use Skype, do uninstalling it not an option. I check almost daily for any Skype for just in case...

What type of video card are you using - have you the latest drivers for it
Ati - Graphics Drivers & Software
Nvidia - Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

I have the very latest WHQL driver for my GTX275

Here is a link to a thread which may solve the problem -
http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/13663-ms-lifecam-vx-3000-a.html

Thanks. I have seen those before. All of these dela with the "hacks / fixes" for Lifecam pre-3.0 and Windows 7 not being the "final". Since Lifecam 3.0 is already out, and Win 7 compatible, I would rather leave things as they are.

ALSO: I have un-installed LifeCam 3.0 and re-downloaded it from Microsoft, and same thing is happening upon re-install of it.

You could try running the life cam software in compatibility mode - its easy to fiddle with this, and you can easily reset the settings if none of them work - right click the shortcut to lifcam software that gives you the blue screen and select compatiblity - you can try running the program in compatibility with previous OS' s, or firstly try disable desktop composition - this will turn aero off & also run as an administrator, you can mix them up in any order, and just deselect all of them to return them to their default settings - well worth a try. You can find more info on this by typing "running a program in compatibility mode" in Help &Support.

If you have the time sometime you could uninstall the webcam and skype - reinstall the webcam to see if it works then reinstall skype - at least you may get some peace of mind knowing whether skype is causing the problem, and maybe it will be fixed in the next version - you could even email them if this were the case.
